Rosalieanne and I have common ancestors that lived at 39 and 41 Meeting Street. 39 Meeting street was the Horry House, purchased by our BARBOT Ancestors in 1853. The house number later changed to 59 Meeting. It is at the corner of Meeting and Tradd streets. Beautiful house--sold for about $1.4 Mil in 1994 or thereabouts. I have color pictures of it and it has been faithfully restored or kept up to look the same as it did when the Barbot's lived in it in the 1800's (comparing written descriptions to the pictures). In the 1880 census there were 23 people in the house!! Three generations! But four generations were lucky enough to have it as their home before it was sold about 1881. I am not as familiar with 41 Meeting street. It was a separate Barbot residence from about 1866 thru 1891. The next time(s) that particular Barbot ancestor is listed in the city directories, 1892 and 1894, the number is listed as 65. Must be when the numbers changed...I have only searched to 1894. So--who were their neighbors???? Maggee Smith
