I know Cordesville is in present day Berkeley County, but I understand from some recent reading that during Reconstruction, Berkeley County was actually part of Charleston County -- 1867 to 1882. So I thought I would give this list a try with my request also. My great-grandfather may have been born in Cordesville, South Carolina. His name was Adolphus Henry Cordes CLAASSEN. His mother was a CORDES from the city of Charleston. He was born in the early 1870's. Do any church or public records for the Cordesville area still exists? If so, where can I go to research them? I wonder if my great-grandfather's birth would have been recorded or archived with Charleston records. Also, it seems more than coincidental that his mother was a CORDES living in Cordesville. I have traced her ancestors back to Bremen, Germany. I know there were many CORDES in Berkeley County and Charleston. Does anyone know if they were all connected? Were they all Germans? I had thought they were French Huguenots until I found the Bremen, Germany connection. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks __ Hank Charleston, SC
