Hello Elizabeth It seems likely that Joseph Cornelius DUBOIS could have studied in Europe. If he was later associated with a Medical University, they would have records of his training. William Hutson PRIOLEAU was my father's grandfather. My father left family items in his genealogical notes and charts. Also, I am sure the SC Huguenot Society has his record. I have no specific source. Glad to see you are active on this list. You are a big contributor. I only wish I had DUBOIS relatives. Off-topic, once you mentioned downloading files from www.ancestry.com. How can I do this ? Do I have to contact the contributor? Best H. Within ancestry.com, do your search for your ancestor. Click on the world tree entries. Look over the entries once you find a promising tree you wish to download, simply click on the link that says "e-mail submitter/download file". You are then taken to a screen that gives info on the file and the submitter's email addy. You do not have to contact the submitter. Click on the link for downloading; in the case of PC's, this gives you a self-extracting file. There may be an easier way to proceed from here, but what I do is then go into windows explore [I have Windows 98], click on the file [it is assigned a number with an extension of .exe] and it extracts itself into a gedcom file. I then go to my Family Treemaker program, begin a new file, and append this new gedcom file, giving it a name that is the predominant name in the file. I do not add new files such as these to my other databases until I'm quite sure the file is useful; sometimes, I just export some of the info. Doing all of this took me a long time at first, but I've gotten very used to it. I have found Ed Manigault's files very useful and am grateful he uploaded his gedcoms to ancestry.com. I believe John Simon may be using it, too. Once I clean up my databases, I'll be posting there, too. Good luck, Elizabeth "H. Dr. JOSEPH CORNELIUS DUBOIS is a mystery man from the mid-1850s when he would have been in his twenties until the 1870s when he was involved in his father's cotton-gin business in Alabama. He was a land speculator/developer for land in the Panama City, FL region in the 1880s. We don't know his date of death; while we've found no record of marriage, my cousin has a picture of a "Mrs. Joseph C. DuBois, wife of Dr. DuBois" which may have been taken soon after marriage. I am mystified by his lack of military records and census records for the 1860s. ANY help is welcomed, and I'm hoping that Bill will find him in a city directory someday. Bill--do you have these directories? Or are you doing lookups in a library or from microfilm? God Bless You for all of these lookups. Elizabeth "H.
