Hello Linda I am looking for an Irish ancestor - Patrick Matthew Sheridan (or P.M. Sheridan) - born 1806 in County Cavan, Ireland. I DO NOT know the year he left Ireland for the US - evidently before 1843. He is not listed on 1840 census - could have been "boarder" in another household. I do have proof of his marriage in Charleston in 1843 (from the Catholic Archives). Patrick (bootmaker by trade) is listed with family on subsequent census records, city directories, etc. He later served in the Civil War - Battle on James Island. Thanks for your help Mary Erwin
