hi everyone, my family received this letter last week, asking for help. i am passing this on to see if we can get the help this woman needs. i am posting on the georgia, scroots, sc-genealogy, sccharles lists because the birth was in georgia, and my line of walling's come from south carolina. anyway here goes. '' TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN'' i am writing this letter on behalf of a friend who was given up for adoption in 1947, and who now desperately needs medical information from her biological family in order to get treatment for retinitis pegmentosa. [she is going blind] in my search to help my friend find her biological family, here is what i have found out so far. she was born on may 19, 1947, at st. joseph's hospital in savannah, ga, and was named linda joyce walling by her birth mother. her birth mother was 16 years old and unmarried at the time. this would make her birth mother about 68 years old today. we believe her birth mother's maiden name is probabley walling, since there was no father's name on the birth certificate. according to non-identifying adoption records, the birth mother was a resident of georgia, but the birth father was not. also, the birth mother was not from savannah, but came here to give birth. the record also states that the birth mother had an opportunity to meet the adoptive parents prio to giving up her baby for adoption. the final adoption order was signed by judge d.s. atkinson in superior court, savannah, ga. on april 16, 1948. at that time, my friend's name was changed by her adoptive parents. i am acting as intermediary for my friend because she does not wish to meet her birth family or interfere with their lives, not does she wish to reveal her own identity. she does, however need help from her biological family in order to get information to treat this disease, which has taken nearly all of her eyesight. if you have any information which could help us obtain a family medical record, please let met know [ i deleted her phone number...vew]. any information given to me will be held in the strictest confidence. sincerely s.s. w.'' anyway folks... if anyone can help please e-mail me directly.. vwalling@clds.net thanks... valerie walling
