I don't know whether they came to Alabama as free people or slaves. Adam was listed in the Alabama 1870 LAND OWNERS CENSUS. The Greene County, AL 1860 census burned in a courthouse fire. Oral family history says they came [from] a CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC PLANTATION. CHANEY's mother was a SNEAD who remembers coming from SENEGAL at age 13 as a slave into the Port of Charleston.
