There are many Toomer's and Porter's in my Moore family line. My Moore relative, Gov James Moore of SC, was from Charleston. I'm wondering if there is a connection to the Toomer and Porter families you're mentioning. The Moore family later settled the Cape Fear area of NC, and married into the Ashe, Swann, Lillington and Hill families. Beth

Beth All I have is A. Toomer Porter's autobiography, and I see no mention of MOORE in the introductory chapter; there is no index. Both maternal and paternal ancestors of Rev Porter (1828-1898) came south from New England. One branch of TOOMERs stopped in North Carolina.
