Donna and Bill, The correct title of the directories that I have are: "Directories For The City of Charleston, South Carolina" and the author is James W. Hagy. Even though I purchased them from Amazon.com you can cut out the middle man by going directly to the publishing company. The publishing company is Clearfield Company, Inc., 220 East Eager Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202, (410) 625-9004. There are 5 volumes of the city directories for Charleston, S.C. The first volume contained the city directories for the years 1782, 1785, 1790 and 1802 as well as the census reports for 1790 and 1800. This particular book with the above information is entitled "People and Professions of Charleston, S.C." (published in 1992). The second volume was "City Directories for Charleston, South Carolina for the Years, 1803, 1806, 1809 and 1813" (published in 1995). The third volume is "Charleston City Directories for the Years 1816, 1819, 1822, 1825 and 1829" (published 1996). The fourth volume is "Directories for the City of Charleston, S.C. for the Years, 1830-31, 1835-36, 1836, 1837-38 and 1840-41" (published 1997) The fifth volume contains the years 1849, 1852 and 1855 (published in 1998). The information that I have for the later years are from my research at the Public Library. As far as I know the directories where published until 1932 by the Walsh Company.
