    1. Re: [SCCHARLE] Historic Churches
    2. Re query on List - for volunteers to lookup info from archives of historic Lutheran Churches in Charleston Several years ago I wrote to St. John's Lutheran on Archdale - they have a very active, volunteer History Committee - who will look up information for researchers from out-of-town. Thanks to them I learned where/when my ancestor was born in Alsace, France and came to Charleston in the 1750's. Also, these records (both original German and English translation) have been microfilmed by the Mormon Church. If you prefer, you could review them yourself - for a nominal postage fee - at your local (Mormon) Family History Center I have also written to St. Matthew's Lutheran on King St. This church was established by the Hannover immigrants about 1840. They have volunteers who will research the archives - written in German AND in the old German language handwriting. They kindly sent me photocopies of the Original Handwritten Marriage and son's Baptism of GGgrandparents. This church also established Bethany Cemetery. If you are interested in cemetery records - you can call directly to the cemetery office - more kind, helpful people. Good luck with your research. Mary Alice. I
