Hi, I was excited to see a George HAIG mentioned in this roll call. Who I believe is our ancestor, Joseph PAVEY (var. spellings), sold 400 acres of land to George Haig, Jr., 1736 (it was on the west side of the Congree River, apparently next to Haigs.) >From what I have read, George Haig and Thomas Brown were in SC at the same time as Joseph Pavey and both were big time Indian Traders, Commissioners, and lived on the Congree. Thomas Brown had a trading post on the old Cherokee trail on the Congree. George Haig (Sr.) was taken prisoner by hostile Indians along with the half-Indian son of Thomas Brown. The son was released but Haig was kept prisoner for a year and then killed. Does this information agree with what you've found? Joseph Pavey/Pevey was also a Ranger and more than likely an Indian Trader (his wife, we suspecion, may have been at least part Indian?) After he sold his property to Haig, he went to Savannah, GA. There was a Joseph Pavey who was granted land in Charleston in 1733, but we've never found where it was acted upon ... very confusing. Have you ever come across any Pavey/Pevey (etc spellings) in your research ... possibly connected to your Haigs?
