I found this out talking to a historian at St. Matthews. I was looking for some information on my ggrandfather who was on the building committe. The church originally was where St. Johannes is now. The congregation outgrew the church and purchased the present sight from the Catholic Church. New building was completed in 1872. In 1876 there was some dissension and some members pulled away and went back to the original church. I think the pastor name was Johannes Heckle and it was named after him. I was told that there are records of births, marriages and deaths at both churches. Bill
