Hi Frost, I sure wish I had some information on Peter Horry. Is there anyone on this list that can enlighten us about him? Ok, I list the same children with the same dates, but I have their mother as Anne Robert. I am beginning to believe that this Ann Royer and Anne Robert are one and the same. I think the Royer came about by someone who may not have heard the name correctly, or was not that good at spelling. I run into this all the time, I am sure we all do. Hello Judy Roberts Here is what I have on Gen. Peter HORRY: Father: John HORRY (1709 - 10 Apr 1770) Mother: Ann ROYER ( - Jan 1776) (Could be Anne ROBERTS ?) Birth 13 Mar 1742 SC Death 28 Feb 1815 (age 72) Columbia, SC Burial Trinity Churchyard, Columbia, SC Marriages 1. Margaret Mary GUIGNARD Marriage 9 Feb 1793 (age 50) 2. BAXTER Marriage Captain Horry was a regimental officer appointed to raise a squadron of mounted rangers by the SC Provincial Congress on 17 Jun 1775. Later, he became a Major and Colonel and chief aide to Francis Marion (the Swamp Fox) in the SC Militia.. He fought the entire Revolution with Francis Marion. He was wounded at Eutaw Springs on 8 Sep 1781 and was seized late in the war at Hampton Plantation, which was plundered and burned. During the war, Mrs. Horry saved Francis Marion from capture at Hampton Plantation when the British troops were pursuing him by hiding him in the nearby swamp. Promoted to Brigadier General, he co-authored a book "The Life of General Francis Marion, a celebrated Partisan Officer, in the Revolutionary War against the British and Tories in South Carolina and Georgia". Horry County, the SC county that contains Myrtle Beach, was named for Peter Horry. I am also beginning to believe that Ann ROYER is really Anne ROBERTS. Can anyone confirm or dispute this ? Edward Manigault is the one who provided Ann PROCTOR as another wife of John HORRY; so he will have support this !
