    1. Re: [SCCHARLE] Joseph Moore son of James Moore
    2. Pamela, I have a huge document that was mailed to me by a cousin. It is composed from many sources and all of them are listed in the back of the document. There is not much information about Joseph except his birth and death dates and that he married Ann Hodges, and their child, Anne Moore. Now for the other children for James and Margaret listed in this document: Jehu b. 1682 and died young, it is speculated that maybe Jehu was taken by the Spaniards. James b. 1682, Roger b. 1694, Joseph, John b. abt 1698, Nathani el b. abt 1699, Ann b. 1687, Mary b.?, Rebecca, Maurice b. 1683, Margaret b. 1682. This document is 140 pages long. I could have it copied and mail it to you. I know it is not the bible, and there are mistakes in it. But, the list of sources is valuable in itself. Let me know what you think? Cousin Sally By the way, my line goes: James Moore Roger Moore George Moore George Moore JR (who I can find almost nothing on, he was in NC) Sarah Moore who married Samuel McCulloch, then James Jackson George Moore Jackson Jane Jackson who married George Washington Polk Harry Jackson Polk Mimi Polk m. George Benson Sally Moore Benson m. Tom Brace That is me.

    2. Hi Sally, I just saw your second e-mail to Wendy - about Gov. James Moore having had a son named Joseph. I am curious about your source. I have not found a son named Joseph listed anywhere in my research. By now, you may have already read the e-mail I sent through the list to both you and Wendy in which I named Gov. Moore's children as listed in his will. I rechecked my sources and still can find nothing about a Joseph! I am puzzled! Perhaps your sources will steer me in the right direction. I wonder - could the name "Jehu" mentioned in Gov. Moore's will, be a form of "Joseph?" If, so, that could explain my confusion! Another thought - perhaps there was a son Joseph who died before his father made out his will, thus he (Joseph) wasn't included in the will! I know, I am grasping at straws here, but I can't think of any other reason a son named Joseph would have been entirely omitted from the SCH&G Magazine article. Any ideas? 2. Hi Sally & Wendy, I, too, am a descendant of Gov. James MOORE and Margaret BERRINGER. Sally, I have also done considerable research on the family - especially my line through "King" Roger MOORE and wife Catherine RHETT. I descend through their daughter Sarah MOORE and husband Thomas SMITH. We are definitely cousins! I would love to hear from you about your descent. Sounds like we have a lot of info to share! Wendy, I have 10 children listed for Gov. James and Margaret (Berringer) MOORE - none of them was named Joseph. The order of birth is unknown, however, the children are listed in Gov. James MOORE's will in the following order: James, Jehu, Roger, Maurice, John, Nathaniel, Anne, Mary, Rebecca and Margaret. I copied "The First Governor Moore and His Children" by Mabel L. Webber (South Carolina Historical and Genealogical Magazine) and just checked it for a Joseph. I thought perhaps your Joseph might possibly be a grandson of Gov. James Moore and Margaret Berringer - but had no luck finding the name Joseph Moore as a direct descendant of this Moore family. I'm sorry I wasn't able to be of more help to you. Sally, you can reach me at: [email protected] I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Pamela Rhett Molzan Charleston, SC

    2. Wendy, My ancestor is Gov. James Moore who married Margaret Berringer. They indeed did have a son named Joseph Moore (1699-1753) who married Ann Hodges. They had a daughter that I know of named Anne Moore (1724-1785). I am afraid that is all I know. I am related to Joseph's brother Roger Moore, so we are distant cousins. Let me know is I can help. 1. [SCCHARLE] Elizabeth Beadon/Bedon marriages
    2. Ken Daniell
    3. Edward, Yes, Elizabeth Beadon/Bedon (1698-1757) did marry three times: 1st John Raven, Jr. 2nd Paul Jenys (Speaker) 3rd Col. John Gibbes. One early researcher had their marriage date as 23 Aug. 1743, but no primary source was cited so it should be verified. Elizabeth actually drew up remarkably detailed pre-nuptial agreements for her second and third marriages specifying her property going into the marriage. Seems she was about two and a half centuries ahead of her time. To further complicate the marriage records, Elizabeth's widowed mother (also named Elizabeth Beadon) was the second wife of John Raven, Sr., widower and father of John Raven, Jr. Given the name duplications it's not surprising that there were errors about these marriages in an early issue of the South Carolina Historical and Genealogical Magazine. It may also of interest that several members of this family are mentioned along with Draytons, Middletons, and Manigaults in "The Letterbook of Eliza Lucas Pinckney." Elizabeth (1698-1757) is mentioned as "Mrs. Gibbs." "Mr. Raven" is one of her sons. "Mrs. Danniel", "Mrs. Cooper", and "Mrs. Evance" are her daughters, Sarah, Mary, and Rebecca, the latter overseeing Charles Cotesworth Pinckney and Thomas Pinckney while they attended schools in England. Your question about the marriage dates is well taken. I have also seen a 25 Aug 1748 date for John Gibbes marrying. Elizabeth Bedon in St. Andrew's Parish. Elizabeth (1698-1757) married Col. John Gibbes as Mrs. Elizabeth Jenys (widow), not Bedon. It is possible these could be two separate couples and marriages. Elizabeth Beadon (1698-1757) was strongly associated with the First Baptist Church, not St. Andrew's. She also had 5 brothers. Only one brother, Richard, has been shown with a daughter named Elizabeth and she is shown marrying John Norman, not Gibbes, but, more research may be necessary to finally settle this issue. Thanks for bringing it up. Any info from Gibbes on the list? Ken Daniell Edward L. Manigault wrote: > Question: Is John Gibbes (1696-1764) m. (Aug. 25,1748) to Elizabeth Bedon > the same as Col. 3. Edward, As a Deputy Lord Proprietor, Robert Daniell (1645/46-1718, of Daniell's Island) had political connections with Gov. Joseph Blake, Robert Gibbs, and Arthur Middleton, but I only know of one direct Daniell marriage to the families you mentioned. Middleton: Robert's great great great grandson, Stephen Bacon Daniell III (1812-1888), m. 2nd Mary Frances Knabb Middleton, Orangeburg, SC (widow of James Asgial Middleton) Drayton: I don't know of a direct Daniell marriage, but there is one for a descendant of Robert. His great granddaughter Mary Wilson m. Thomas Drayton Gibbs/Gibbes: No direct Daniell marriage but there is a connection for Robert's son John. John Daniell's mother-in-law Elizabeth Beadon Raven Jenys m. #3 John Gibbes. Sorry, I don't know of any Blake or Singletary marriage or John Parker m. Susan Middleton. If you think any of the records you have might connect to Robert Daniell I would be interested. Hope this helps. Ken Daniell Edward L. Manigault wrote: > Ken: > > Thank you for your help. 1. [SCCHARLE] Francis Haynes ALLEY
    2. Hi Charleston Searchers: My great grandfather Francis Haynes ALLEY was born in Gibraltar south of Spain on January 24, 1812. He landed in Charleston on November 14, 1817. He married an Elizabeth Jane ROBISON born on May 10, 1819. Elizabeth Jane ROBISON was from Charleston, I assume. They were married on September 18, 1836, by a Dr. Capers, denomination unknown. This marriage produced eight children from 1938 to 1954. My great grandfather married twice more in his life. But I am interested in his first wife the above noted Elizabeth Jane ROBISON. There was in Charleston around this same time frame a John B. P. ALLEY who was said to have been born in Spain in 1813 and MAY have been a brother of Francis Haynes ALLEY. John ALLEY applied for citizenship in Charleston in 1836. He was a cabinet maker. My great grandfather Francis Haynes ALLEY was a carpenter. Can any one help with this rather recent family to the USA? Joe P. Alley [email protected]
