    2. I saw your request for info- I live in the vicinity of Darlington County S.C. The area you mentioned is Jeffries Creek not Jefferson. There is a very knowledgeable man named Horace Rudisell that you may want to look up. I am sure he would be in the phone book. He is a walking encyclopedia of Darlington history and likes to talk about it. Good Luck! Kevin Lassen

    3. Hi All! Was just clearing out my favorites list, and ran across this site. Couldn't remember if I sent it along or not. It has many of our Charleston County names, ie. Girardeau, Stevens, Stanyarne, Wilkinson, Wescott, etc. Hope it helps someone. It's interesting in that some of the names are people who are supposed to have lived in the lowcountry at the time. They must have owned land in the upcountry too! Enjoy! Deborah http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Quarter/1728/gengrnsc.html

    3. Hello List: I am searching for information on my gggggrandfather George Curling born in Charleston in 1784. George was a Ship Carpenter from England. He married Ann Maragret Henricksen. They had a daughter Caroline or Catherine Hopper Curling. I don't know if they had other children. I have found little information on this family. They moved to Alabama sometime after the civil war and he died in 1860. I was told by various family members that The "Curling" family at one time owned all the land that was Charlestown before the Civil War and that when the courthouse was burned during the war all deeds were lost. I have hit a brick wall and would appreciate help. Caroline or Catherine married John P. Boyle in Tuscaloosa, AL May 4, 1843. Are there any cousins out there??? Donna Wagner email: [email protected]

Margaret Berenger did marry James Moore, Sr. The Yeamans, Berenger (Berringer)s families came from Barbadoes to SC, as I believe did James Moore. John Yeamans became a Landgrave in SC. Arrived from Barbados June 1671. Wife, Lady Margaret Yeamans; sons William, George, Edward; daughters Ann and Willoughby. Yeamans was a member of the grand Council, A Lord Proprietors Deputy, Lieutenant General, and Governor of Carolina. Baldwin, "First Settlers of South Carolina." Also spelled "Yeomans." Let me tell you what I have in this document. James Moore III was born in 1703 in SC and died in 1771. He married Sarah Waring in 1754. James Moore, son of James Moore and Elizabeth Beresford, was born in SC. With his mother and brothers, he inherited Boochawee Hall in St. James Goose Creek Parish. In 1739, the family sold the plantation and Moore evidently moved to St. George Dorchester parish, the home parish of his in-laws, the Warings. At the time of his death he was a planter on the Savannah River in St. Peter Parish. Moore married Sarah Waring, daughter of Elizabeth and Thomas Waring. They had 3 children: Elizabeth, James and John. There are some details about the will of James III. Elizabeth Moore b. 1759 m. William Edwards March 2, 1774, of Charleston, SC. James Moore d. 1772 John Moore b. 1758 d. 1835 married and unknown Wheeler in 1790. He was a member of the Jacksonborough Assembly, 1782, from St. Peter's Parish. There is a son listed as John Wheeler Moore who was born in 1794 and died in 1869. John Wheeler Moore married Laura Rececca Moore. They had a son named Thomas Polk Moore b. 1833 d. 1859. Thomas Polk Moore married Augusta Ellis in 1855. Their child was Laura Isabelle Moore b. in Mobile County, AL and married Hart Wylie. That is all I have on this family. Let me know if it jives with what you have. Sally --part1_0.6d55c3a8.254c54cd_boundary--

    1. Re: [SCCHARLE] Joseph Moore son of James Moore
    2. Hi Carol, Thanks for posting your interest in the Moore family. James MOORE, Jr. (the second Gov. James MOORE) did indeed marry a woman named Elizabeth. It was once thought that her maiden name was Neufville, but according to "The First Governor Moore and His Children" by Mabel L. Webber (SCH&GS Magazine, pp. 193-194) she has been identified as a Beresford. Below is an excerpt from that publication concerning Elizabeth's identity: "The second governor James Moore had a wife Elizabeth, apparently the mother of all his children. Tradition has said she was Elizabeth Neufville but this is hardly possible, as the Neufvilles seem not to have been here so early. Richard Beresford in his will dated 1715 bequeaths to 'My Brothers and Sisters-in-law, Collo: James Moore and Elizabeth his wife, and Nathaniel Ford and his wife, a gold ring each'; and John Beresford, his son, in his will, 1739, mentions among others, Aunts Mrs. Sarah Trott, and Mrs. Hallam Delamere, Uncle John Cooke, and Aunts Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Mary Ford. Col. Wm. Rhett of England and South Carolina married Sarah Cooke, daughter of Edward Cooke of Bentley, England. She married 2nd Nicholas Trott. Sarah Cooke, granddaughter of Edward Cooke, married in South Carolina January , 1711/12, Richard Beresford, Esq., who died in 1721. Their son, John Beresford, born 1712, will 1739, calls Sarah Trott his aunt [she was his grandaunt] and Richard Beresford calls Col. James Moore and Elizabeth his wife, brother-in-law and sister. Mary Beresford is shown by the register of St. Thomas and St. Denis's Parish (printed) to have married Richard King and, after his death, Nathaniel Ford. As these are the only authentic references yet found concerning the wife of the second Governor James Moore, it would appear that she was the sister of Richard Beresford who made his will in 1715, and died in 1721. James Moore and his wife Elizabeth had issue: I. James d. in 1771. II. Jehu d. in 1744, s. p. III. John d. in 1762. IV. Margaret 1707-1775. V. Mary m. in 1744, John Postell. V. Elizabeth living in 1744 (will of Jehu Moore)." I do not have anything else regarding the Postell children, but I will see what I can find. I am so glad you inquired about James and Elizabeth Moore - had I not checked my paperwork, I would have continued to miss something pertinent to my own line. Mabel Webber points out the relationship between Richard Beresford's wife, Sarah Cooke, and her aunt, Sarah (Cooke) Rhett Trott. Sarah Cooke (the aunt) and her first husband, Col. William Rhett, were my 7th great-grandparents. Their daughter, Catherine Rhett married Roger Moore, brother of the second Governor James Moore. Let's see, that would make James Moore's wife Elizabeth (assuming she was the daughter of Richard Beresford) the first cousin once removed of Catherine, the wife of James' brother Roger Moore! I think! In any event, until today, I had missed the fact that Sarah Trott even had a niece, so I have 'discovered' another piece of my family puzzle. Thanks. Regards, Pamela Rhett Molzan Charleston, SC

    1. Re: [SCCHARLE] Joseph Moore son of James Moore
    2. Hi, I have James Moore, son of Gov. James Moore and Margaret Berringer, being born in 1682, Charleston, SC and died on March 3, 1722/23. I have him married to Elizabeth Berenford. In this document James and Elizabeth had 7 children; James b. 1703 d. 1771, Jehu d, 1744, John d. 1762, Mary Moore who married John Postell in 1744, Elizabeth, roger, Margaret b. 1707, died June 13, 1775. This document also goes on to say that Mary Moore daughter of James Moore and Elizabeth Berenford married John Postell in 1744, and had issue; Col. Jame s Postell (1745-1824) who married and had issue, Major John Postell d. 1797, m. (1) Jane Chifford, m. (2) Harriet Young; m. (3) ?, Jehu Postell m. Hannah Coachman, and possibly a fourth child named Elizabeth Postell m. John Moore. This is all the information that I have on these folks. I am wondering if it jives with yours? Sally
