    1. Re: [SCCHARLE] RENUNCIATION? SAME AS MANUMISSION?
    2. raf
    3. > Thanks for sharing your knowledge. > Would she have sold the land as a widow or as a married woman? > Trying to bracket those dates. Usually a woman released dower during the life of her husband. When a man sold land, very often his wife would be called to publicly relinquish her right to claim dower (her marriage portion). At times a widow might sign a renunciation of dower, if she failed to do so during her husband's life, and the new owner of the land felt the need to protect himself from future suits. Most likely, Jacob Henry was living at the date that the renunciation was written, or Catherine would have been referred to as his widow or relict. The date that the document was recorded and the date that it was written are different (the date recorded being the later date), so be sure to read it carefully. > >> I found a legal document that says my ancestor Catherine Henry, wife of > >> Jacob Henry, to John Brownlee, renunciation. 3. Hi All! I've been away for the holidays, and just wanted to comment on this subject. I have been berated over and over for what some considered "improper messages", but it seems that for every negative e-mail I received, I received 20 giving me support and saying that they appreciated the break from the humdrum of the genealogy messages. I suggest that we take a survey here and now. Anyone who doesn't mind the unrelated messages, please let me know (personally at my personal e-mail: [email protected]) and I will make a mailing list. Then just send the "cute" stuff to me, and I will forward it on to the other list. I don't mind, because I love all this other stuff! So send me your e-mail addresses, and off we'll go to love and laughter outside of the genealogy list! Happy New Year! Deborah _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. Does the Charleston list cover Ridgeville, SC? It is my understanding, that Ridgeville is practically a suburb of Charleston. If anyone can send me the names and mailing addresses for the Cemeteries in Ridgeville, I would really appreciate it. My great-great grandfather Charles WEBSTER is buried there. Many thanks, Caroline Whidbey Island, WA

That doesn't mean he didn't die in the Civil War but it does list about 18,000 SC CW dead. My next suggestion would be to check cemetary records for the area. URQ

    3. I read a comment on someone's posting about, I thought, Amelia County. The only reason I asked (and please don't spend anymore time on it), my great-great-great-great aunt was named Amelia Henry. Married a man named Joel Henry and lived in Georgetown Co. in the early 1700's. I just wondered. Hope your Christmas is bright! Caroline -----Original Message----- From: Charles L.
