    3. Hi, I was excited to see a George HAIG mentioned in this roll call. Who I believe is our ancestor, Joseph PAVEY (var. spellings), sold 400 acres of land to George Haig, Jr., 1736 (it was on the west side of the Congree River, apparently next to Haigs.) >From what I have read, George Haig and Thomas Brown were in SC at the same time as Joseph Pavey and both were big time Indian Traders, Commissioners, and lived on the Congree. Thomas Brown had a trading post on the old Cherokee trail on the Congree. George Haig (Sr.) was taken prisoner by hostile Indians along with the half-Indian son of Thomas Brown. The son was released but Haig was kept prisoner for a year and then killed. Does this information agree with what you've found? Joseph Pavey/Pevey was also a Ranger and more than likely an Indian Trader (his wife, we suspecion, may have been at least part Indian?) After he sold his property to Haig, he went to Savannah, GA. There was a Joseph Pavey who was granted land in Charleston in 1733, but we've never found where it was acted upon ... very confusing. Have you ever come across any Pavey/Pevey (etc spellings) in your research ... possibly connected to your Haigs? 3. Randy.... My family has been in St George and Charles Co since 1636. My father and his mother used to say we were relatives of the Keys. We do have a lot of flat silverware from the Key family. I would very much appreciate seeing any data you have on that family; I have practically nothing and I see no genealogy connection to the Matthews in what I have.... Thanks if you can help.... 3. I am new to several SC lists as of today, so I hope people will forgive me cross-posting my direct line surnames to several lists. JOHN DUBOIS was in Carolina by 1696, and was dead by 1723. His son, GASPARD (JASPER) m. SUSANNAH JUIN (dau. of Eliz. VIDEAU); their son, PETER DUBOIS m. ANNE MOUZON (dau. of ANN VIDEAU); their son, PETER DUBOIS m. ANN CLARKSON CARNE (dau. of MARY HUTCHINSON); their son, JOHN DUBOIS m. LOUISA WILLIAMS in 1825 after he moved to Alabama. Between 1696 and 1820 when my gggrandfather, Rev. JOHN DUBOIS, moved to Alabama, my direct line ancestors lived in Charleston, and owned lands, lived in, worshipped in, and were married and/or buried in several areas of present-day South Carolina. I am much more familiar with the Parish names than present counties, so until I find out exactly where my ancestors lived, I'll be looking many places. My direct ancestors from this and the surrounding area are: Baltzegar Barton Baxter Bruner Bullock Carn Cooner Dewitt Giessendanner Goring Hasfort Jennings Keys McMichael Pendarvis Pooser Rumph Schaumloffel Singletary Strobel Stroman Tyler Way West My research includes ALL pre-20th century residents of what is now Dorchester County. If your family was living in this area during the 1850 census, I likely have something on them. I am less likely to have much information for a family who moved to the Dorchester area after the Civil War. Thank you, Randy

    1. [SCCHARLE] Birth Mother
    2. vwalling
    3. hi everyone, my family received this letter last week, asking for help. i am passing this on to see if we can get the help this woman needs. i am posting on the georgia, scroots, sc-genealogy, sccharles lists because the birth was in georgia, and my line of walling's come from south carolina. anyway here goes. '' TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN'' i am writing this letter on behalf of a friend who was given up for adoption in 1947, and who now desperately needs medical information from her biological family in order to get treatment for retinitis pegmentosa. [she is going blind] in my search to help my friend find her biological family, here is what i have found out so far. she was born on may 19, 1947, at st. joseph's hospital in savannah, ga, and was named linda joyce walling by her birth mother. her birth mother was 16 years old and unmarried at the time. this would make her birth mother about 68 years old today. we believe her birth mother's maiden name is probabley walling, since there was no father's name on the birth certificate. according to non-identifying adoption records, the birth mother was a resident of georgia, but the birth father was not. also, the birth mother was not from savannah, but came here to give birth. the record also states that the birth mother had an opportunity to meet the adoptive parents prio to giving up her baby for adoption. the final adoption order was signed by judge d.s. atkinson in superior court, savannah, ga. on april 16, 1948. at that time, my friend's name was changed by her adoptive parents. i am acting as intermediary for my friend because she does not wish to meet her birth family or interfere with their lives, not does she wish to reveal her own identity. she does, however need help from her biological family in order to get information to treat this disease, which has taken nearly all of her eyesight. if you have any information which could help us obtain a family medical record, please let met know [ i deleted her phone number...vew]. any information given to me will be held in the strictest confidence. sincerely s.s. w.'' anyway folks... if anyone can help please e-mail me directly.. [email protected] thanks... valerie walling

    3. Hi, I tried to go to your web site for the second time and it keep telling me it has performed an illegal some or other, and tells me to close it. I am pretty tenacious, and will probably try again, but in the meantime, I wanted to give you some information, which you may or may not already know. Charleston was the Colonial Capitol of SC and a lot of the early wills from all over have been recorded there. They may all have been removed to the Archives in Columbia by now, but they did have the originals at one time. Joanne H. North Carolina

    3. Hi, I don't know if this will help you at all, but know the brick wall feeling! I finally wrote to the SC Archives in Columbia SC and asked them to do a name search in the records they have indexed. That includes land records, marriage contracts (an incredible document) and court judgments .... they have a list they'll look through. I was stunned. I am looking at a pile four inches thick. Have learned so much about my father's family that I don't know when I'll have time to put it all into my Family Tree Maker. Downside: It cost me $100. They bill you after the fact. I figured it was worth it, but that's a personal decision.
