I have an ancestor Louis Mouzon who came to SC (about 1685) from the Village de Mouzon, Ardennes, France. I am descended from his granddaugher, Ann Mouzon who married Daniel Sinkler in 1764. Perhaps Ann & Eliz are related? I have been waiting for Betty Mouzon Dunn, my Mouzon cousin whom I consider the Mouzon expert, to chime in here. Suffice it to say for now that I am also a Louis Mouzon descendant through another Ann Mouzon. We call her affectionately Ann "the problem" Mouzon on the Huguenot list because she has been placed in various family constellations including the one who married Sinkler. I hope that Betty can answer the Axson question. I would encourage all Mouzon descendants to join the Huguenot-L list and also to attend the Huguenot reunion in Charleston 4/21 to 4/23. Let me know if you want more info. Elizabeth DuBois Russo Descended from ANN MOUZON m. PETER DUBOIS in 1752. Does any know the location of dividing line between the Parish of St. James, Goose Creek and the Parish of St. Philip's/St. Michael/s (City of Charleston). Did the boundary MOVE with growth of City ? Also, did the Parish of St. James, Goose Creek include the area known as "Charleston Neck" or "the Neck". Per a microfilmed copy of early Charleston City Directory, Charleston Neck was on other side of (then) Boundary Street, (now) Calhoun St. I am trying to locate WHERE several family connections lived in "Charleston Neck" - evidently at one time a suburban/rural area. Did "the Neck" include the present day location of Magnolia Cemetery? Also per recent deeds posted on List, I have photo-copy of 1852 Deed of Sale that identified property only as located in the Parish of St. James, Goose Creek - apparently quite a large area. Have no idea HOW to find location of property and thus identify former "home address" of family conections. Thanks for reading my questions ! Hopefully, someone on list will know the answers !! Hello Maria....You made my Sunday morning. It is always a pleasure to discover a new cousin!!!!! the Ann and Susannah Elizabeth mentioned in your querry were cousins. Are you descended through Ann's marriage to Daniel Sinkler? or through her marriage to Josias DuPre? I have got quite a bit of info to share with you on this family and the Mouzon side as well. If you have info on the marriages of the children from the Sinkler children....please share. I know of at least 5 or more descendants of these families who would love to hear about them. I will email you privately by email and give you more detailed information on the different branches of the Mouzon family. I have a lot of research materials I will be happy to send to you if you send me a Snail mail address. If you are in a hurry for information check out our cousin George Timothy Mouzon's Web Page on Family Tree maker users home pages or you can find a link to click on on the USGEN Web page for Williamsburg County. He has done a lot of research on the Mouzon family and is a member of the SC Huguenot Soc. Please also subscribe to the Huguenot-L @rootsweb.com there are a number of people there researching the DuPre/Sinkler/Mouzon and other families. Cousin Georges' web page will give you a good overview of the family....including a few tidbits on the DuPre/Sinkler connection....I will be able to fill you in on more info on your line...I have been blessed to have made contacts with other descendants of your family.
My roots (paternal and maternal) are in CHARLESTON - although I have always lived hundreds of miles away !! Have been searching many years for PARENTS of my known Charleston ancestor - Civil War Lieutenant - ISAAC DANIEL DROZE - born about 1830 - died July 1864 in Civil War - leaving young widow who then lost touch with Droze in-laws "in the country". (Possibly Beech Hill/Old Dorchester/modern Summerville?) My ancestor, Isaac Daniel Droze is listed on the 1860 US Census - in City of Charleston, together with wife (Eugenia) and three sons (including my ggrandfather). Isaac Daniel is age 29, occupation painter. I would like to verify that MY Isaac Daniel Droze is the SAME person as the ISAAC DROSE listed on the 1850 US Census - in City of Charleston, living in household (son?) of Catherine Drose (widow?). This Isaac on 1850 Census is listed as age 17, occupation painter. (I have copy of an 1852 Deed signed by Catherine and other Droze family members, but no indication of relationship; also copy of Catherine's death card same year.) * * * Another coincidence of name and street address. The 1856 Charleston City Directory show J. (I.?) Droze, occupation painter, living at 22 Cannon Street. My KNOWN Droze family lived at 22 Cannon Street, per the 1860's City Directory. * * * THANKS for any and all clues HOW I might VERIFY if these listings all refer to the same person - my KNOWN ancestor - Isaac Daniel . First, a PINCKNEY question: What relation was CHARLES PINCKNEY to HOPSON PINCKNEY and ROGER PINCKNEY? I believe the latter two to be brothers; is CHARLES a brother, too? Which CHARLES PINCKNEY would this be? Who are their parents? HOPSON PINCKNEY and ROGER PINCKNEY each married QUASH girls, who in turn were daughters of ROBERT QUASH and ELIZABETH DUBOIS. Hi All! I am researching the WILKINSON, WESCOAT (AND ALL OTHER SPELLINGS OF THE NAME), CORNISH, AND STEVENS families of Charleston and Edisto Island. Specifically: WILKINSON - Desc. of Christopher Wilkinson and Elizabeth Morton and his second wife, Elizabeth Farr. CORNISH - Desc. of Rev. Andrew Ernest Cornish of Aiken and Edisto Island. STEVENS - Looking for Ancestry of Daniel Augustus Stevens. Would like to know where the family came from originally. WESCOAT - DILIGENTLY AND FRUSTRATINGLY searching for any Wescoat info from any part of South Carolina, especially descendants of Jabez J. Randolph Wescoat of St. Paul's Parish and Edisto Island. Also, any descendants of his brother, Joseph Wescoat, father if Capt. Joseph Jenkins Wescoat, C.S.A. I have info on the Alabama family that married into the Free family for anyone interested. If anyone lives in or near to Summerville, and would be willing to look up Wescoat headstones in the Episcopal churchyard there, please contact me. I believe I have found a branch of the family there, but can get no replies to my correspondence. Meanwhile, I am living in Florida, and would be willing to consider doing research here in exchange for research in S.C. TO RANDY: I would be eternally grateful for any info on my families from the 1850 census. Happy Hunting! Deborah Aldridge __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
