    2. Hi Elizabeth, I called too late yesterday to reach Debbie Reynolds. I did just finish talking to her today and told her you were really really recommending this book. She said that someone else had also called her. She is going to try and search different areas and see if they can find anymore copies and will get back to us. She also said it was a real family Bible down there. SO, cross your fingers and Thank you! Enjoyed talking to her since her husband grew up near where I live. SMALL WORLD!! BETTY

    3. St. Johannes Church is still a very active congregation. The Church is on the corner of Hasell and Anson St - (i.e. 48 Hasell Street, 29401) . Phone is 843 722 8906. They always open the church for Historic Charleston Foundation House and Garden tours, so you might well be able to contact someone who has a strong interest in the history of the church. There is also a Lutheran Church only a block away on Wentworth St - i.e. St. Andrew's, but I don't know what year it was founded. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 22, 2000 7:26 PM Subject: [SCCHARLE] Historic Churches > > > Re recent discussion on historic chuches > > Today I happened to read a list of historic churches in the city of > Charleston - > which mentioned a LUTHERAN Church built about 1810. > > ST. 3. I'm looking for information and membership list of an orthodox Jewish Synogogue called Sherith Beth El. It is NOT the existing Beth El Synogogue. I found a little bit about it in a book but would like to know a great deal more as my great great grandparents were married in it. 1. [SCCHARLE] Historic Churches
    2. Re recent discussion on historic chuches Today I happened to read a list of historic churches in the city of Charleston - which mentioned a LUTHERAN Church built about 1810. ST. JOHANNES LUTHERAN CHURCH CORNER HASELL AND ANSON. BUILT ABOUT 1810. I did NOT know another Lutheran Church had been organized in Charleston in the years AFTER the founding in 1700's of St. John's (Archdale Street) and BEFORE the establishment in 1840 of St. Matthew's (King Street) by the Hannover immigrants. I have paternal and maternal ancestors who were members of both St. John's and St. Matthew's. Possibly family connections also worshiped at this third Lutheran Church. Does anyone know if ST. JOHANNES LUTHERAN CHURCH Is still an ACTIVE congregation - with, hopefully, a History Committee to review the church register for christenings, weddings, etc. Would be much appreciated if a local Charleston List member could look up the St. Johannes Lutheran Church in phone directory - and then post the street address and phone number on the List - for further inquiry. Thanks ! Mary Alice

    3. Please let us know if they are going to re-print, as I recommend this book all the time. Hint for those who must have this book: a couple of the author's children/grandchildren hang out on the Huguenot list, and if you post a plea there, they might respond with ideas on how to obtain it. (I don't wish to publicize their names and email addresses without their permission; they rarely post to the list, and seem to be private people.) But it is the Historical Society for Berkeley County which prints it and collects the revenue for it. I hope to get my first edition signed by the author in April, if he is able to have visitors.
