    1. [SCCHARLE] Re: Royal Arcanum???
    2. I am trying to find out some information about the following for a friend of mine. Can anyone give any hints on where to look for this place? "My husband's grandfather, James SCOTT was supposed to have died in Charleston, SC at a place called "Royal Arcanum" around 1954." She checked with Masonic orders and such, and it is not of that type thing. Any ideas? Thanks, Maggee Smith

Does the map show the BOUNDARY between the parish of St. James Goose Creek and the parish of St. Philips/St. Michaels (in City of Charleston) ?? I have copy of a deed (from the 1840's) - saying property located in Parish of St. James Goose Creek. No marker (creek, river, etc.) to find them on modern map. However, I have wondered exactly how FAR OUT the Charleston Peninsula they might be located. Perhaps in area once called "Charleston Neck" - locale of one ancestor's 1840 census records (Isaac Droze). Re your book on St. Thomas/St. Denis. Does your book include MORE information in addition to the basic record of weddings, baptisms, etc. (which I have checked in my local library's genealogical department). The small book that I saw listed baptism of Isaac Droes and Daniel Droes - in the 1720's. I would be interested if your book has any further mention of the name Droes - or Droze. THANKS Mary Alice Droze Erwin --part1_32.34de475.261e11f2_boundary--

My Elizabeth Davis (b. abt 1729-d. abt 1815) married Francis Postell, Sr. (b. abt. 1725- d. abt 1770). Francis Postell was the son of Jacques (James of Berkeley) Postell and Judith Unknown. She was mentioned several times as receiving money from the government for things she had done during the Revolution therefore, James must have been dead by then. We have no leads on Elizabeth Davis Postell at all. Nor any leads on Judith Unknown Postell's maiden name. From all the tidbits I have read about her, she must have been quite active during the Revolution. Any help with either of these lines would be most appreciated. I don't know how many Davis' were in the Charleston area during this time frame. If anyone has any information on Capt. David Davis, I would love to have it. Who knows, Maybe he is the father of Elizabeth. It would be nice. Thank you so much. Carol

    3. For those wishing me to keep an eye out for your names while I'm in Charleston, please consider doing online database searches at the SC Historical society, and at the Charleston Public Library. I will have the most time at these two places. For meaningful research and the best shot of me finding something for you, it would be helpful for me to have call numbers or some such thing. I hope to have time to hop on the Net while there and correspond via email. Since I won't have my beloved cable modem with me, I am forced to go back to AOL or some such thing while there, so my email name will probably be different. Anyway, I might be able to do real-time research if either place will allow me to hook up my laptop to a phone line. Does anyone know how I can hook up my lap top to my cell phone? Again, I can't promise any results, as my own research lists are extremely long, but the more info you give me, the better I can help. Elizabeth

    3. I am looking for the families of James Pritchard and Eleanor Bulloch, my 5th great-grandparents. James and Eleanor were married in St. Philip's Parish in Charleston on Sept. 9, 1756. Their daughter, Eliza Ann, was born there in 1757. She married John Purves in St. Philip's Parish in Jan., 1775. I have later information on them and John Purves and family which I will share if interested.

    1. [SCCHARLE] volunteer for research?
    2. Julie O. Perkins
    3. I need a volunteer, or someone who'll let me know their charge, for two requests: 1)I have an old letter giving the location of a grave at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Charleston. A researcher in 1959 got this information for my paternal grandmother. It is for Thomas O'NEILL who was buried by Rev. J.J. MONAGHAN (what church?) at lot 146, section 4, range 23, plot number 10. This lot was supposedly bought by a Rev. T. O'Neill in 1862 and was sized 8-10 individuals. Only one tombstone is on the lot, that of Walter O'NEILL who was buried in 1859 by Rev. Patrick O'NEILL, his brother, who served St. Patrick's Catholic Church. There is no marker for a Thomas O'Neill, though records show he died in 1893 or, according to an old letter from the Charleston Co. Health Dept., in 1873. (misprint of dates?) Can someone see who actually purchased this lot and when, what its size is, who all might be buried there without a marker? 2)the Rev. Patrick O'NEILL mentioned above was an Irish immigrant from Kilkenny who came to Charleston about 1835 and was ordained in 1836, was the founding priest of St. Patrick's (on the Neck), and died in Jan. 1865 of pneumonia, being buried on the grounds of his church, though the actual spot is unmarked today. A brief biography of him can be found in _Catholicity in the Carolinas_. This states that when he died, his estate was bankrupt. I have looked for an obituary on him and his brother and found only brief mentionings of his death. I'm really seeking other family members who may have been with him, particularly the children of his brother, Thomas. Even if his estate was bankrupt, wouldn't there have been an administration of his estate? I would appreciate any thoughts or help with either of these... 1. [SCCHARLE] Request for my SC Huguenot Web Pages and Database
    2. Elizabeth Russo
    3. I have many web pages and databases, and perhaps oddly, what I have on SC Huguenots is the least developed at the moment. I have a TON of info that needs to go up on the web, but I have "saved the best for last" and haven't gotten very far. Having said that, I will set forth some URLs below, but beg everyone's indulgence. Please check back in a few months as I will be finally getting around to developing my website[s] in this direction. So, here goes: My largest database is posted to Rootsweb's World Connect Project. Of the 65,000 plus entries in it, though, only about 20 percent are my own. The remainder come from combined gedcoms from many sources, especially Ancestry.com's world tree and some Huguenot researchers I know from the Huguenot list on rootsweb. Search for your surname here: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi Or if you want my database specifically, go here: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=elizabethrusso As to my personal web pages, I have over 130, but as of today only have one specifically devoted to my SC families. This is the page, though, where a lot of early SC will be linked when I get to it. go here: http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Choir/1824/dubois.html My main genealogy page is here: http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Choir/1824/genealog.html My homepage is here: http://geocities.com/Vienna/Choir/1824/index.html My Family Treemaker web page is here: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/r/u/s/Elizabeth-D-Russo/index.html I also have myfamily.com sites devoted to the Methodist Genealogical Society, to the HARRISes of JAmes Towne, VA; to the DUBOIS family of SC; and more. Happy hunting, but be sure to check back in the summer or so when hopefully the SC pages will be in full bloom. My ancestor Mary Eleanor Anderson was married to James E. Tindal of Sumter district and died at age 22 in Greenville. Does anyone have more information on this James Ezra Tindal?
