    1. [SCCHARLE] Charleston City Directories on Microfilm
    2. Re Charleston City Directories Many (not every year) are available on microfiche and microfilm - and can be ordered for a small postage fee through local Mormon Family History Centers. I am currently reviewing the 1882/83/84 city directories - all on one microfilm. The Mormon Church has also microfilmed various "typescripts" of Charleston cemetery inscriptions, church registers, etc. They are a wonderful resource for any researcher living outside the Charleston area. 1. [SCCHARLE] Signers of The Declaration of Independence
    2. Edward L. Manigault
    3. List: I have been studying a book entitled "Signers of The Declaration of Independence" by Della G. Barthelmas, printed by McFarland and Company, 1997. It contains a lot of information not found in some of the more concise books on the same subject and I can recommend it as a good source of general information. However, I have found several instances of genealogical information for the ancestors of Lewis Morris (of N.Y.), Arthur Middleton and Thomas Heyward that confuse me. I am not about to say the book contains errors, but I do have difficulty collating some of the information with what I have gathered over many years. I have not yet done the Rutledge and Lynch biographies, so I hope for improvement in my understanding with them. Has anyone else had similar difficulty? If you want to be specific, may I suggest you could contact me directly, rather than on this "public" list? I certainly don't want anyone to have legal problems. Am I being too careful? Edward

    2. Hi Folks, Well, I am off to Charleston Friday, the 18th of Aug. Taking my son to the Citadel . Will be there thru Sunday evening. Would really appreciate it if someone could tell me the best places to do genealogy research so I dont waste time hunting around. I have been thru the censuses so I dont need them..have access to them at the NARA in Atlanta. I would like to find 1845-1860 marriage records, death records thru 1865, city directory for 1840-1865 the people I am interested in are Jewish....MARCO, HYAMS, HUMES , PRINCE and ALEXANDER... Does anyone know if the synagogue has old records or if these are available anywhere other than the synagogue in Charleston? Are any libraries or research facilities open on Sat and Sun? Or open until midnite or 24 hours a day? Just kidding!! I know there are two or three different families of HYAMS in Charleston at the same time....1840, 1850.... I am not aware of them being related but even their names are the same. Moses Hyams and Solomon Hyams are father and son I believe. 1840, 1850 census, all born SC There is a Sarah PRINCE, born SC, who was 72 in 1850 and who had a daughter named Rebecca. Then there is a much younger Sarah Prince also with a daughter named Rebecca ....sometimes this Rebecca is just listed as Rebecca, other times she is listed as Rebecca Hyams, so I know HER mother is MY Sarah Prince, not the other one. MY line of HYAMS & PRINCE, etc are: Descendants of Sarah (Maiden Name Unknown) HYAMS PRINCE 1 [1] Sarah UNKNOWN Born: 1818 in Poland Died: Sep 1865 +Unknown HYAMS/HYMES Born: in England ..... 2 Hyam A HYMES Born: 10 Mar 1828 in PORTSMOUTH, ENGLAND Died: 5 Jan 1907 DARLINGTON, S,C, ......... +Caroline Elizabeth RUGG Born: 10 Jan 1839 in Camden or Darlington, S C Died: 19 Sep 1889 Darlington, SC/Old Meth Cem, Orange St. Darlinton Father: Hiram H Rugg, Constable Of S.C. Mother: Keziah Ann Packer ..... 2 Henry HYMES Born: 1830 in England ......... +Celestine/Christina? HUME(S) Born: 1836 in France ..... 2 Rebecca HYMES Born: 1842 Died: 10 Nov 1916 Moved to Darlington from Charleston in 1863 Burial: NYC ......... +Samuel MARCO Born: 1838 according to enlistment age Died: 8 May 1909 NYC Father: Nathan/Newcomb Marco Mother: Wife Unknown *2nd Husband of [1] Sarah UNKNOWN: .. +George PRINCE, Second Husband ..... 2 Leah Louise PRINCE Died: living OUT of SC ......... +Alex FINEBERG Died: living OUT of SC ..... 2 Samuel PRINCE Born: Abt. 1836 in England Anyone recognize Leah Louise Prince her brother Samuel Prince or Alex Fineberg? Thanks for taking time to read this and making suggestions! Edie in Atlanta, Georgia, USA

    3. Beth All I have is A. Toomer Porter's autobiography, and I see no mention of MOORE in the introductory chapter; there is no index. Both maternal and paternal ancestors of Rev Porter (1828-1898) came south from New England. One branch of TOOMERs stopped in North Carolina.
