Could you please tell me who the father/mother is of this Anne Robert? Thanks, Judy Roberts << Things sometimes get complicated. I have Anne Robert as the sister of Capt. Kindly send all replies to Samw50@aol.com September 01, 2000 According to the _1880_ US census both CHANEY and ADAM BRUTON were born in SOUTH CAROLINA. They ended up in GREENE County, ALABAMA. I don't know whether they came to Alabama as free people or slaves. Adam was listed in the Alabama 1870 LAND OWNERS CENSUS. The Greene County, AL 1860 census burned in a courthouse fire. Oral family history says they came [from] a CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC PLANTATION. CHANEY's mother was a SNEAD who remembers coming from SENEGAL at age 13 as a slave into the Port of Charleston. I have a Mary Lynch ( 1700-1766) as dtr of Johnson and Susannah Lynch and married to Pierre/Peter Robert (1702-1740). Can you verify or correct this one? Ann, What years do you have directories for? If you wouldn't mind doing a lookup - but I don't want you to take the time to look if the year I need isn't there. Donna and Bill, The correct title of the directories that I have are: "Directories For The City of Charleston, South Carolina" and the author is James W. Hagy. Even though I purchased them from Amazon.com you can cut out the middle man by going directly to the publishing company. The publishing company is Clearfield Company, Inc., 220 East Eager Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202, (410) 625-9004. There are 5 volumes of the city directories for Charleston, S.C. The first volume contained the city directories for the years 1782, 1785, 1790 and 1802 as well as the census reports for 1790 and 1800. This particular book with the above information is entitled "People and Professions of Charleston, S.C." (published in 1992). The second volume was "City Directories for Charleston, South Carolina for the Years, 1803, 1806, 1809 and 1813" (published in 1995). The third volume is "Charleston City Directories for the Years 1816, 1819, 1822, 1825 and 1829" (published 1996). The fourth volume is "Directories for the City of Charleston, S.C. for the Years, 1830-31, 1835-36, 1836, 1837-38 and 1840-41" (published 1997) The fifth volume contains the years 1849, 1852 and 1855 (published in 1998). The information that I have for the later years are from my research at the Public Library. As far as I know the directories where published until 1932 by the Walsh Company. Hope this information helps. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Free email you can access from anywhere! http://mail.yahoo.com/

List Members: Looking to exchange information with anyone who descends from Anthony Barton of North Nibley, County of Gloucester, England. Anthony arrived in Charleston, SC about 1824 with his first wife, Maria Ford, and either three or four children. He married a second time after the death of Maria. Possible children: William Ford Barton, George Barton, Hannah Barton, Elizabeth Barton and Aaron Barton. Hannah Barton married a W. Hays. Elizabeth Barton may have married a John Alderson.
