Betty: Thanks for the additional dates. I had Alexander Richie Haig (b. 1844) as married to Elizabeth Whitsell. Could that be her name from a previous marriage? Can you help with children of generations after Rep. George Haig and Mary Maham? I only have one child for each of the later generations. Any dates on the Mahams would be great! My software does all my information arranging for me. Otherwise it would be very hard to read indeed. Edward
This is the ONLY information that I have on the Brith Shalom Cemetery and I am completely unfamiliar with the area. "The Brith Shalom Cemetery is a few blocks west of the Magnolia Cemetery on the outskirts of peninsula Charleston." Could anyone give me information regarding BRITH SHALOM CEMETERY? I will be going down to Charleston on the weekend of the 15th of Sept. and would like to visit and go over their records as well as those of Magnolia Cem. Does anyone know if it (Brith Shalom ) is open to the public daily? Some older cemeteries seem to be locked all the time, especially Jewish ones. Are records available? Can you purchase a listing of persons buried there or find them online? Also, does anyone know of a home that rents rooms? Dont need anything fancy, just cheap with a clean bed and shower in town.. Thanks for any tips. Edie in Atlanta

If anyone comes across the name HILDRETH in the 1790's through 1820's would you notify me. I have found a baptism record at the Circular Congregational Church as well as listings in the early 1800's City Directory and a listing in the 1800 Charleston, SC census. I am looking for orphan records and guardian records. Also looking for Dowling information in the late 1810's. Zacheus Dowling was a preacher in the city with the Methodist Church in 1818. My Benjamin HILDRETH married Zacheus Dowling's sister, Jemima Dowling in the early 1820's. kp ----- Original Message ----- From: <SCCHARLE-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <SCCHARLE-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 05, 2000 6:00 AM Subject: SCCHARLE-D Digest V00 #153

Frost: Here is how I figure it out. Ann Royer and Ann Proctor seem to be the same person, unless there were some very strange unions in that time. John Royer (1696-1721/22) [son of Noe Royer and Judith Gitton] m. (abt. 1716) Ann "Hannah" Simons (b. 1699). They had at least 3 issue, Ann, Samuel, and John, Jr. (d. abt. Nov., 1753) a Ferryman. If John Horry's wife's maiden name was Ann Royer, it could be this one, the dtr. of John and Ann (Simons) Royer. It was reported that John, Jr. married an "Ann Proctor", dtr. of Capt. Proctor and wife, "Hannah", but that would mean that he married his half-sister. That, I would prefer not to believe. It was this "Ann Proctor" who was supposedly later married (July 5, 1759) to John Horry (1709-1770) widower of Ann Robert. After the death of John Royer (abt. 1722), Ann (Simons) Royer married (abt. 1730) Capt. Stephen Proctor and had at least two issue, Richard and Ann. Richard m. (1772) Mary Vinson. Ann (1731-1773) m. (1755) Josias Allston (1731-1776) as his second wife. This Ann can not be the wife of John Horry because she was married to Allston during the same time period. I think it is "possible" that Ann (Simons) Royer/Proctor married, thirdly, John Horry. Does anyone have a death date for Capt. Stephen Proctor? I have Ann Robert as the mother of the same children you have Ann Royer for. If Ann Royer lived to 1776, she was still living when John Horry married Ann Proctor in 1759. St. James, Santee Parish records shows "John Horry, - - widower" married to "Ann Royer, - - widow" July 5, 1759. That's the date I have for John marrying Ann Proctor. So was her maiden name Proctor, or Simons (or neither)? Edward >> > ----- Original Message ----- >> > From: "Edward L. Hello Judy Roberts Here is what I have on Gen. Peter HORRY: Father: John HORRY (1709 - 10 Apr 1770) Mother: Ann ROYER ( - Jan 1776) (Could be Anne ROBERTS ?) Birth 13 Mar 1742 SC Death 28 Feb 1815 (age 72) Columbia, SC Burial Trinity Churchyard, Columbia, SC Marriages 1. Margaret Mary GUIGNARD Marriage 9 Feb 1793 (age 50) 2. BAXTER Marriage Captain Horry was a regimental officer appointed to raise a squadron of mounted rangers by the SC Provincial Congress on 17 Jun 1775. Later, he became a Major and Colonel and chief aide to Francis Marion (the Swamp Fox) in the SC Militia.. He fought the entire Revolution with Francis Marion. He was wounded at Eutaw Springs on 8 Sep 1781 and was seized late in the war at Hampton Plantation, which was plundered and burned. During the war, Mrs. Horry saved Francis Marion from capture at Hampton Plantation when the British troops were pursuing him by hiding him in the nearby swamp. Promoted to Brigadier General, he co-authored a book "The Life of General Francis Marion, a celebrated Partisan Officer, in the Revolutionary War against the British and Tories in South Carolina and Georgia". Horry County, the SC county that contains Myrtle Beach, was named for Peter Horry. I am also beginning to believe that Ann ROYER is really Anne ROBERTS. Can anyone confirm or dispute this ?
