Edward Manigault and Margaret Stapleton and List Thank you for your contributions / corrections on the HORRY line. I have made revisions and print my version of the ancestors of Gen. Peter HORRY (1742-1815) below. I welcome further additions and corrections.(I am descended from Peter's first cousin Thomas HORRY (1748-1820)) To learn more about Peter HORRY and Francis MARION, I recommend reading "The Life of General Francis Marion", by Brig. Gen. P. Horry and Parson M. L. Weems, written in 1824 and republished in 2000 by John F. Blair, Winston-Salem (I got a soft-copy from Amazon). Despite the old language and some exaggeration, which HORRY deplored, it is a wonderful account of MARION and HORRY during the Revolution. I have an Elizabeth McBride that indentured my 3 great grandfather Benjamin HILDRETH on 10 August 1815 as an umbrella maker an orphan located at the Charleston Orphan's Home. Benjamin Hildreth at the age of 8, was placed at the Charleston Orphan's Home 28 March 1811 by his mother Mary Groshen. kp ----- Original Message ----- From: <Rsroon@aol.com> To: <SCCHARLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2000 8:00 AM Subject: [SCCHARLE] James McBride > Does anyone on the list have information on James McBride. Does anyone on the list have information on James McBride. He appeared in the 1790 census for St. Phillip"s and St. Michael's. He was listed as having on male under 16 as well as two females over 16 and one slave. I assume that the two females were his wife Mary ? and his daughter, Margaret McBride. Margaret McBride married James Missroon around 1800. James McBride is buried along the front wall of St. Michael's, next to his daughter and son in law. If anyone has McBride connections I would like to hear from you and exchange info. Robert Missroon Rsroon@AOL.COM
Would anyone possibly have access to the 1830 census for this county? If so, and would be willing to look for a James Atkinson living there? He was born about 1796. The last name has been misspelled many different ways, Atchison, Atcherson, Adkinson, etc. If a James cannont be found, I would love to know the name(s) of any other heads of household with that surname. Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated. Leslie Hill LHill42731@aol.com

According to Richard Cote's "The Genealogists' Guide to Charleston County, SC" there were two African Methodist Episcopal Churches by the name of Brown in Charleston City: Francis Brown A.M.E. Church (1866: WPA) 9 Ashe St., Charleston 29403. 723-5987. Records: [WPA: Minutes 1930-1937, Register 1927-1937]. Morris Brown A.M.E. Church (1867) 13 Morris St., Charleston 29403. 723-1961. Rec: [WPA: Minutes 1927-1937, Register 1927-1937]. Could find no mention of a Brown Fellowship Cemetary in any of the church listings.
Thank you, Thank you. This is one of the key pieces of the puzzle that we have been looking for. Your help is greatly appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: <SCCHARLE-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <SCCHARLE-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 10, 2000 11:01 AM Subject: SCCHARLE-D Digest V00 #157 According to the book "History and Records of the Charleston Orphan House 1790-1860" Abstracted and Transcribed by Susan L. Hi...I was wondering how to join this list...I have just returned from Charleston...and am trying to find as many research web pages as i can....Thankyou, Rosalieanne
I am new to this list and am researching my grgrgrandfather Joseph Prevost. According to family lore, he was born in Martinique (though it may be Saint Domingue) in 1806. Supposedly he and his sisters settled in Charleston after a slave uprising. His father was supposed to have been killed. In the 1850 census he is in Charleston and gives SC as his place of birth. I need to find some proof of this story and where he really was born. Does anyone have access to christenings in this area? Maybe this could help me find out if he was born in Charleston or not. The family was supposed to have left France because of religious persecution and went to England and ultimately to the Carribean. I have been told that Joseph's mother is buried at St. Philip's. Joseph however is buried in Anderson and was a member of the 1st Presbyterian there. Thanks for any help available. Beth Prevost Browne
