    3. The SC Archives are in Columbia, SC, about a three hour drive from Charleston. While in Charleston you should go to the SC Historical Society at 100 Meeting Street and to the Charleston County Library. Also the Registrar of Mesne Conveyances is you have time. Medway Plantation is still there and is, I believe, a wildlife preserve. It is near Goose Creek, about 30 miles west of Charleston. There is a Medway Foundation and a recent book on Medway that you might find interesting. Beach, Virginia. Medway: A Plantation and its People. 1999. There is a marker in historic Charleston near the Battery about Landgrave Thomas Smith. I saw it and took pictures when I was there about 6 years ago. I can't tell you the street because we just happened to see it and stopped. I believe the Historical Society staff could direct you. You should start there. There is a charge (used to be $5 a day for non-members to do research but it's worth far more than that. My husband is also descended from Landgrave Thomas Smith. I'd be glad to share information.
