    2. These are a couple of suggestions that I recommend, that had lists of persons naturalized in Charleston, and microfilm that covers Clerk of the Court Naturalization records. They are as follows: Federal Naturalization Oaths, Charleston, SC 1790-1860 (SCR 929.3) South Carolina Naturalizations, 1783-1850 (by Brent Holcomb) (SCR 929.3757) Charleston County Clerk of court: Naturalization Records, 1836-1905, Registration of Aliens Under Act of 1940 (microfilm) Records of Admissions to Citizenship, District of South Carolina, 1790-1906 (microfilm) These are all available at the Charleston County Library, South Carolina Room, at 68 Calhoun Street. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me. Maggee

    3. Thanks for the information on Catherine Dominique Prevost. I really don't know anything about her, but I will certainly put her in my Prevost files. One never knows when a connection will be made. I will let you know if I ever connect her with any of my Prevost family. I am finding many twists and turns in theis family, and I really am confused at this time about who is really who and where they came from. Thanks again. Beth Browne

    2. Yes this a very good question. It would be very nice to find out where we could write to find this information or when we are in the area , where we could search for this information. I have been told that you might be able to find this information in Columbia, S.C.

    2. Julie O. Perkins
    3. The POWER names that I have found associated with my O'NEILL research are taken from the Thomastown parish records of Thomastown, Kilkenny, Ireland. The O'NEILL family I am researching were Catholic and farmed in the area around Jerpoint Abbey, known now as Jerpointchurch and Ballynamona and then as Newtown Hunt. The years I have are about 1800-1840. The POWER names I have are: 1)Elizabeth POWER - married William NEILL before 1809; unknown where; a marriage between these two names found in 1806 in London, but why would they have been there? Known children were: Patrick, Mary, Anastasia, Thomas, John, Walter, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Andrew (births range from 1809-1829). 2)Michael POWER - tenant farmed with William NEILL on the estate of Mrs. Blake of Ballynamona; related to Elizabeth? 3)Anastasia POWER - sponsored William and Elizabeth Power O'NEILL's children's baptisms in 1811 and 1813; related to Elizabeth? 4)Mary POWER - sponsored above children's baptism in 1813 with Anastasia; related to Elizabeth? 5)Catherine POWER - sponsored above children's baptism in 1815; related to Elizabeth? 6)Margaret POWER - sponsored above children's baptism in 1820; related to Elizabeth? 7)Judith POWER - married a Thomas O'NEILL of Jerpoint, possible brother to William. Known children were John, Patrick, and Richard; possibly sponsored the above children's baptism in 1822 as Judith NEILL. 8)George POWER - witnessed the marriage of a William NEIL and Bridget LYNCH in 1826. Was this a second marriage for 'my' William? Known children were: Richard, Michael, Mary, Margaret, Patrick, and Bridget. *of Charleston, SC, married by Patrick O'NEILL, oldest son of William and Elizabeth, and priest at St. Patrick's of Charleston 1836-1865: 9)Thomas POWERS m. Mary MADDIN Jan. 17, 1853 10)James POWERS m. Johanna COLLINS Jan. 18, 1853 11)Johanna POWER m. Michael FLYNN Jan. 18, 1853 It is unknown how these last 3 POWER(s) relate to each other or to the Rev. O'Neill, although the witnesses to #9 were Thomas and Mary O'NEILL, probable brother to the Rev. It is also unknown how any of these relate to each other or to my O'NEILL line. However, I feel there _must_ be a connection. Any ideas? Julie O'Neil Perkins

    1. [SCCHARLE] Baptist Churches in the 1870's
    2. Theiling
    3. I learned today that one of my ancestors may have been Baptist. He was born in Charleston in 1873, and his family lived at 18 Spring St. His mother and his descendants were Lutheran so I have never done research in the Baptist church records. Could someone point me in the right direction? What Baptist churches existed in the 1870's in Charleston? Are the baptism and marriage records available at the churches? at a central archive? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks -- Hank

    2. Edward L. Manigault
    3. Ellen: I have checked through all three surnames in my files and can find no Reeves or Legare married to Manigault. I could have missed one "hidden" as another spouse, but not aware of it. If anyone knows of one, please let me know. There are several Legares connected through "parallel" marriages, but none that are direct as far as I can tell.
