Hi Linda Thanks so much for checking your Book of Naturalizations for my ancestor, Patrick Matthew Sheridan of County Cavan, Ireland. Wish he had been listed !! . Really appreciate your time and interest in checking for "our" ancestors. Mary Erwin PS Does anyone know if foreign immigrants in the early 1840's were REQUIRED to become United States citizens - or was it voluntary.
Sorry, not one McDaniel listed. ----- Original Message ----- From: <WRC35@aol.com> To: <SCCHARLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 20, 2000 6:07 PM Subject: Re: [SCCHARLE] Citizenship Application > Great, could you look to see if an Ephraim Murdock McDaniel, B. 1805, > Scotland is listed. Hello Linda I am looking for an Irish ancestor - Patrick Matthew Sheridan (or P.M. Sheridan) - born 1806 in County Cavan, Ireland. I DO NOT know the year he left Ireland for the US - evidently before 1843. He is not listed on 1840 census - could have been "boarder" in another household. I do have proof of his marriage in Charleston in 1843 (from the Catholic Archives). Patrick (bootmaker by trade) is listed with family on subsequent census records, city directories, etc. He later served in the Civil War - Battle on James Island. Thanks for your help Mary Erwin
Thanks for looking - the name I was actually checking was Thomas Kicklighter, or a variation - I just can't find records back to 1753 when his ship arrived in Charleston. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks! Glo Marquis
