I am interested in t any Yates / O'Hara relationships Oliver O'Hara married a Yates but even in a second marriage was still friends with the Yates family. Oliver fights in the 1812 War - becomes the first mayor of Key West and he dies in France. He goes to Key West in 1823 and stays till after 1850. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Laurie" <jmlsray1@bellsouth.net> To: <SCCHARLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 02, 2000 1:40 PM Subject: [SCCHARLE] Charleston surnames > Hello I am new to the list and thought I would share my surnames in hopes that someone out there is researching them too. I am working on David ADAMS married (Before 1784) to Ann CHAPLIN, their daughter Eliza ADAMS married (1804) in William PRESSLY, their daughter Ann Esther PRESSLY married (abt 1840) to George ANDERSON. I believe after that, they would have left Charleston. Do you have any Will Books? Marriage Books - especially looking for marriage of George Anderson to Ann Esther Pressly. Thanks for your offer. Jackie, The Joseph YATES you mentioned is one we are related to. Do you have much information on him? I found a Paul VENNING mentioned as a nephew to Paul MURREL in a will dated 1787. I found lots of PALMERs and MORGANs but none named Esther or Job. Good Luck, Laurie Jackie & Walter Brooks wrote: > Laurie, > I have a Joseph YATES, died Aug. 1860 md. Susan M. I am descended from Edward Pinckney who married Jane Smith and bore Mary E. Pinckney (b. ca. March 2, 1832 in Charleston, d. August 7, 1912 in New York City). On a visit to Charleston (one of my favorite places) in September, I found the headstones for Edward Rutledge Pinckney (b. 2/22/1800, d. 9/1/1832) and his sister Mary Pinckney (b. 3/21/1804, d. 1/24/1822) and those of their parents, Major General Thomas Pinckney and Frances Motte Middleton Pinckney, in St. Philips Church cemetery. At the SC HistoricaI Society I also found a St. Philip's Parish Register reference to Edward Rutledge Pinckney's 11/9/1800 baptism. Also in the St. Philip's Parish Registry is a record of the April 9, 1800 baptism of Jane Smith, daughter of John Rutledge Smith and Susannah Smith. Same parish and same birth year as Edward Rutledge Pinckney. What I don't know is whether my Edward Pinckney is the above-referenced Edward Rutledge Pinckney or whether my Jane Smith is the above-referenced Jane Smith. Does anyone have information that would help me make the connection? Is there any record of Mary E. Pinckney's birth as daughter of Edward Pinckney and Jane Smith? What confuses me is a mention in various on-line communications and the IGI of a Mary Elliott Pinckney, b. 2/4/1833 in Beaufort, d. 8/7/1912 in Charleston. This is same date of death as my Mary E. Pinckney, but my Mary Pinckney (Scott) definitely died in NYC. Kirk Gulden
Laurie, I have a Joseph YATES, died Aug. 1860 md. Susan M. CLEILAND; their children=Joseph St. Julian & Clarence. This was Susan's second marriage; I am connected to her/1st marriage. Could you check your books for VENNING,Samuel(1752-1821) Jonah(1792-1865); PALMER,Job(1748-); MORGAN, Esther(1777-1862) Thanks Jackie At 01:40 PM 11/2/00 -0500, you wrote: >Hello I am new to the list and thought I would share my surnames in hopes that someone out there is researching them too. Can anyone tell me if there is a source of passenger lists of ships coming into Charles Towne/Charleston in about 1754? I am looking for a passenger on the ship Nancy out of Bremen, could be by way of Philadelphia or could be direct, in 1754. Possibly August but not certain on the date. Passenger Johann Heinrich Weideman or variant spelling. Thanks in advance. Lee Ponder Tallahassee, FL

Try the Charleston County library on Calhoun St. they have a web site. I am not sure what it is but it will show up in search. Look for listings in the South Carolina Room. If you see a listing with the letters SCR in front of it that is where it will be. Elizabeth DARRELL was born about 1710 in South Carolina. She died 10 June 1759 at Charleston, Charleston Co., SC. She is buried at the Circular Church in Charleston. She married Rev. Josiah SMITH about 1730 at Charleston, SC. He was born 25 Dec 1704 at Charleston, Charleston, SC and died 19 October 1781. I have much information on him and his family. I am descended from their son, Josiah SMITH who was born 15 Sept 1731 at Cainhoy, St. Thomas/St. Denis, Berkeley, SC and died 12 Feb 1826 in Charleston. He married Mary Elizabeth STEVENS. Later email to follow requesting info on the Stevens family. Any information on the DARRELL or DERRELL family that might tie in with my Elizabeth would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Dear List Members: Can anyone tell me where to find Charleston's Episcopal Church records for the 1800's. I have an Aaron Barton who was born about 1790 and was married twice. His 1st wife, Marie Ford Barton, is buried at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke & St. Paul in Charleston. Aaron Barton is buried at St. Philips in Charleston. I have visited St. Philips and they have very little in the way of records. Do the Charleston Episcopal Churches have a central place for their older records? Richard V. Byrd Savannah, Ga
I am looking for information on the parents of Mary Seabrook who married John Lewis Poyas 29 June 1783. Both appear to be from St. James Parish. I am a descendant of Jean Louis Poyas, father of the above, through another son John Ernest Poyas and Rachel Bourget. I am also a descendant of Robert Seabrook but cannot place Mary in the Edisto Island Seabrook family. Perhaps she was a Seabrook widow at the time of this marriage. Any information appreciated. Kathy Seabrook Duncan
