Hello all, Bushy and I were just contacted by someone just starting up another Berkeley County web page. Please do not consider this flaming or criticizing the owner or other owners of other Berkeley County web pages. This owner was very nice and requested permission to post their page information on the mailing list and didn't wish to step on any toes. We appreciate that, and got us to thinking to ask a question of the members of the list. We have lived in Berkeley County since 1997. We have coordinated the Rootsweb SCGenWeb county web page for several years now, just about as long as we have been here. We do not have any family in Berkeley County. We did this because when we first started doing genealogy online we found that this county site was up for adoption. Our whole goal was to give back to the genealogy community as we received from others in other states that our families did and do live in. We recently spent many hours revising the page and removing all data from the previous owner John Simons, who has his own web page with the Berkeley County Historical Society, you can find a link to his page from ours. We found that most of the Berkeley county web pages focused on differing areas and if we all worked together we could all intensively cover those areas in which we were most interested. Mike and I enjoy photographing headstones and cemeteries in hopes of preserving the images before the stones are gone. We also have started going to Charleston and paying for copies of early wills by going through the microfilms and pulling out all those that mention Berkeley County or her parishes. This is somewhat expensive but we felt that it was worth it to provide a quality web page since we were not receiving any submissions. We also just obtained copies of the 1790 census from Charleston. Back to the purpose of this posting: 1. We would like to ask the subscribers of the Berkeley County mail list if they feel that our web page is needed, since there are so many others? Here are just a couple of examples: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tga/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~scbchs/index.htm 2. And/or would you like for someone else to take the SCGenWeb Berkeley County web page over, possibly a native to the area vice persons recently moved here? Only thing that we ask is for honesty, and that you make your responses to the list. Please, let's keep it polite. Anyone that does not respond will be considered as a vote for us to give up the web page to someone else. We will be more than happy to honor the request of the majority. Have a great genealogical day! Mike & Bushy
Your Web page suits me just fine and I am grateful for all the hard work you do. Please don't close up shop because others want to do their own pages. There is plenty of information in Berkeley and surrounding areas to choose from. You are doing a great job!
