Hi Scott, Richland County was formed in 1785 and, until 1800, was part of Camden District. In 1800 almost all of the counties were made into districts. Thus Richland County became Richland District. Lexington County was also formed in 1785 and, until 1800, was part of Orangeburg District. In 1800 this county became a district just as Richland County did. Thus Lexington County became Lexington District. In 1868 all districts in SC again became counties. Richland and Lexington have been adjoining counties (districts-counties) from the time they were formed until today.
