I am the ggggranddaughter of George Hughes (Hughs) who was probably born in the Old 96 District of SC. He could have been brought there as a child, I am not sure. He lived in Laurens, SC and married Rhoda Garrett. Both families came originally from New Kent, VA. The Garretts moved to Fairfax county, VA and the Hughes family probably did as well. By 1790, George was in Laurens, SC and married. He had sons named John, William H., Thomas, Aaron, and Moses. I know that he died before 1823 and Rhoda moved on to N. AL. I would like to hear from you and learn more about the "Memorial in 1775" if you have learned anything. I think there was a Joseph Hughes in the area and I know there was a John and Aaron, but I do not know who George's father or brothers were. Perhaps we could put our heads together and figure out something. Thanks, Jan
