Posted on: Berkeley Co.& Old Berkeley/Craven Co. SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Berkeley/10413 Surname: Arnett ------------------------- I am trying to track down some history on my family from South Carolina. It is the Arnett family. I have found numerous Arnett's and I believe I have found the one who is my GGGGGGrandfather. We have our family traced back to my GGGGrandfather, who was David Arnett, born in South Carolina on Aug.18, 1785. He had no brothers and nine sisters and he died in Texas. He married Rhoda Curlee who was born on Nov. 11, 1781. She was born in North Carolina. David's father was John Arnett, born in South Carolina, and we believe his grandfather was also a John Arnett. We have a copy of a last will and testament of a John Arnett dated June 22, 1777 and we believe that is my GGGGGGrandfather. I have posted a copy of the will. I have no birth or death dates on either John Sr. or John Jr. There is also family writtings of John and his brothers riding with Francis Marion. The will states they were from Prince Frederick Parrish in Craven (Berkeley) County. I also have information on Land for a John and Margaret Arnett (spouse of John Sr.) and also land in the names of most of their children per the names in the will. I have listed the land information from SC Records. According to family history, our Arnett's migrated from Maryland to SC prior to the Revolutionary War. I am also researching that info to try to link to the correct Arnett's in SC. What I am trying to confirm is the link between David Arnett and the two John Arnett's in the will. I am also trying to find out if any of the family homesteads are still standing and where they are located on a current map of SC. One of the plantations is listed as Venture Branch. I know that alot of information for the old counties was listed under Charleston but I don't seem to find any on our family. I do find alot on families in other counties. Can anyone put me in the right direction on finding any information on birth, death, land, etc. for Craven county? I am also trying to find a list of those patriots who rode with Francis Marion. I found a website that was to have a list, but now I cannot find it. I am working with a cousin and also hitting different genealogy sites and gathering info there. I would be very interested in sponsoring a family website once I can confirm which branch of the Arnett's in SC I come from. Again, I believe my best lead is the will of John Arnett. I am trying to track down who in my family found it and if they were able to verify the connection. Additional land information found in reference to the Arnett's of Craven County who's names are the same as in the Will of John Arnett.
