Are there books or film that contain the history of plantations during the late 17-18 hundreds in Berkeley County? I am looking for information regarding Rice Hope. According to a map it was located on the Copper River near the area where the river forks into the West Branch and East Branch. It was owned by the Ball family and later by Robert Allen Matthews. If you have any knowledge of this plantation or where I can go for research. please contact me. I have data to share. Thank you, Patricia Matthews McCrory in Texas <patsybell@aol.com>
Sorry but the message did not go through. We have the Family tree and I would be glad to send it to you. If you wish this E-mail as it is long.
Hello my name is Brandon Coffey- I live in Moncks Corner, and I have a couple of questions to ask about Berkely County, I am only 16 years old and have already visited 13 privately owned plantations and I would love to visit more but anyway the quesiton is does anyone know where Dean Hall Plantation was relocated to? I know somewhere up towards Beaufort (or I atleast think that whats I heard) and I was wondering if someone on this list possibly knew, I would very much like to visit the house if the owner allows. And also is Ophir Plantation still standing? I notice it is owned by Henry Porcher of Memphis, and then I saw taht it was destroyed for the santee cooper electric project, if anyone can help PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE write back. Thank you! Brandon Coffey Moncks Corner, SC PS- If anyone has any other information on other Berkeley County plantations like pictures, etc. I would be more than happy to see them :)

Hello SCBERKEL List- I was wondering if anyone could help me, I was curious to know if the Fox Bank Plantation house (original house) is still standing? I can't seem to find much information on the plantation, I have tried a numerous amount of times to contact the owner- Mr. Ben Scott Wahley, but he never answers and if he doesn't answer the phone will be busy. I was on Hwy. 52 and saw that Fox Bank is now for sale, 700+ acres with 3 lakes anyone know how much the asking price is? Please write back thanks. Sincerely, Brandon Coffey Moncks Corner, SC
Hi. I'm looking for my Grandfather McDuffy Driggers born July 5, 1888 possibly in Douglas (Ga. or SC?). His mom was Charlotte (NA) & his dad was William Driggers. Had a sister Wm. jr., & a sister Margaret. Orphaned at the age of abt. 8years old. Charlotte died 1895 from burns while making soap. Wm. died soon after from a lightning strike while out working in the field. Three children went to live with an uncle. I'm wondering if McDuffy was my Grandmother's maiden or Indian Name? Ever run across a McDuffy Driggers or Mack Duffy Driggers or any version spelling combination? I found him on the 1917-1918 WWI Draft Registration in Duval County, Fl. but not much info. there and don't know how to find out any more. His Army records we are told were destroyed in the 1973 Fire. Thanks for any help, advise, suggestions, etc. warm regards, suz
Hi Laura. I have corresponded with Don on numerous occasions. Is your info the same as his? My Grandfather was McDuffy Driggers born 7-5-1888 possibly in GA or SC. His mom was Charlotte (NA) & his dad, William Driggers. He had a brother Wm. jr. & a sister Margaret. Can't find him listed on any Census in Wmsburg/Clarendon/Sumter Counties. Have been in contact with the DAniel Driggers/Martha Jane Carmon line. Very, very nice people & I believe relatives somehow. Just wondering if you had ever run across his name. He has a pretty unusual first name & spelling. Have you ever known of any Native American McDuffy's or any version of the spelling? Warm regards, suz
