I have an interesting dilemma which centers around the possible ages of four brothers that appear in a deed of gift of personal property from a father. This deed was written in 1797 and filed in Screven Co., GA and gives hogs, horses, cattle and moveable property to four sons. The father says that two of the brothers are to take possession of the property for keeping until the "two younger brothers are of age." The determination of what this age was in 1797 is important in identifying if this father is the right father for my RUDD ancestor. Keeping in mind that this deed does not include land, I would be interested in any and all opinions as to what this legal age might have been that allowed two brothers to be "of age" and the other two brothers not to be "of age."
