My interest is in the HAYNES family. I am trying to find the parents and siblings of my GGG grandfather COLLETT HAYNES b abt 1785 NC/KY/VA??? not sure where the census give different places. The earliest date I have for him is in MO 1819. He settled in Clinton Co MO where he died abt 1855-60?? I was hoping someone had a will or estate sale with his name listed. With the name COLLETT, I'm going out on a limb here, BUT, I am trying to find a connection to the COLLETT family with maybe he was named after his mothers maiden name. Anyway, if you find any thing on the COLLETT-HAYNES marriage in that area, let me know. Thanks for your time!

Hello all, I am looking for better directions to two places to locate the historical markers and photograph them for the web page in the coming weeks. If you have any landmarks like a store or "tree with big red sign" anything that will keep us from wondering around looking for these places. Possibly the nearest crossroad, that will come up in a search on our mapping software. Thanks so much have a great evening. Bushy & Mike Hartman 1. On the Northeast side of "French Quarter Creek" there is suppose to be a granite cross for the French Church site. John Simons web page has the following description: "Approach to site by a dirt road turning west form Hwy No 8-98 on Northeast side of French Quarter Creek." 2. Huguenot Church of Goose Creek marker 100 yds north of the old public Rd from Dorchester Co. to Moncks Corner. Proceed west from Baptist church on Hwy No. 78 going 3 miles. Dirt road turns north the marker is located about 475 ft from the end of this road. http://www.rootsweb.com/~scbchs/index.htm Berkeley Historical Society web page (If your working on French ancestors a visit to this web page is a must.)

From the book "Of The Society of Harry's Meeting House Commencing January 1st 1807, Cypress Circuit" I find on a page titled "Received on Trial" the name "John Vallentine, Joined September 5, 1845." I also find "John Balentine" and "Laney Ballentine" in the "Married Class" with "Stephen Williams, Class Leader" with a date of September 5, 1811." In the class with them are Ezekiel Smith and James and Anne Brabham. Could Rulaney have been born a Brabham? George H. If a search returns too many irrelevant hits, include a word such as < papers > or < records > or < letter > in your search as one of these terms appear in most titles of Manuscripts collections. The online catalog of the University library system, USCAN, displays a majority of the holdings in the USC system. Most of the published holdings of Books Division are described in USCAN. Several thousand descriptions of manuscript collections also appear in USCAN, but this represents only ca. 25% of holdings of Manuscripts Division. USC now offers a web version of the online catalog, USCAN: http://www.sc.edu/uscan/ Select USC libraries, then scroll down to lower left cell and select South Caroliniana Library. The default is KEYWORD. Subject searching for family names and other topics provides more relevant returns. Click on LONG VIEW [links on left column] to read detailed descriptions. A *keyword* search for < smith AND family > returns 174 hits, many unrelated to Smith family genealogy, such as a book by John Smith George written about Sly and the Family Stone. A *subject* search for < smith family > returns 57 relevant hits. To identify newspapers for a certain area, select a subject search and paste in a search such as: < charleston county s c --newspapers > and go to LONG VIEW then click on the SUMM box to identify which newspapers are available. Hi Bushy, Mildred Keller Hood has already transcribed the Biggin Cemetery. It is in her book Cemeteries of Berkeley County. Mildred lives in St. Stephen. The history of the church ruin is in detail in the book Historic Berkeley County, South Carolina 1671-1900 by Maxwell Clayton Orvin. Peggy Price
Hi! In regards to the Biggin Church Ruins, also known as the Parish Church of St. John's Berkeley Parish, I would be interested in any of the Villeponteaux names that are in there. My son's paternal line may be connected to them somehow. His g-grandfather's middle name was Villeponteaux. Grandfather and father's middle name was shortened to Ponteaux. I know the Coachman's were in that area, so it may be this line that connects to them as that is the family surname. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Patricia A. George, Thanks, your right we came from the intersection and checked the brick columns on three of the entrances looking for a sign. We have to go back over and retake a couple of stones that were too dark probably because it became cloudy. When we go we'll take a shot of the marker also. Thanks again George. Bushy Bushy, That is the Biggin Church Ruins, also known as the Parish Church of St. John's Berkeley Parish. I shot those markers while I was home in July, too. If you enter the cemetery from the 402 side, there is an Historical Marker there outside the gate. I guess you entered from the intersection where there is no marker. Hello all, Mike and I were out this weekend working on another cemetery that is located on Carswell Ln and Hwy 402. I tried to locate it on a map but still couldn't tell where the several cemeteries were located. There is part of a ruin also in the cemetery that could have been a mission or church made out of brick. There are some very old headstones around the ruin and newer headstones mainly in another section but some are pretty close to the older ones. Some of the family names are: WHITE AVINGING VILLIPONTEAUX CORDES SIMS HOOD WYNDHAM BROUGHTON PARLER MCKNIGHT WATTS DENNIS ANDERSON HILL and many more There are 374 entries to this cemetery so Mike will be taking some time to get it on the web page in the coming weeks. So if anyone knows the name of this one and can help us out. Also if anyone knows anything about the ruin that would be super. Thanks so much Bushy Hartman
