John McKee Revolutionary War Soldier South Carolina This is from microfilm records in the Genealogical Division of the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis Rev and 1812 Wars section April 12 1930 Mrs W. Hampton Perry 11 Lane boll st Charleston South Carolina Dear Madam: I advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim W. 8446, it appears that John McKee, when about sixteen years of age, enlisted as a private in Captain Jenkins` company, Colonel Barnwell`s South Carolina Regiment. The company was raised on the island of St. Helena and was called the St Helena Volunteers. He was in the battle of Stone, the siege of Charleston, and served several years, no dates of service given. He died September 8 or 9, 1834, in the seventy-fourth year of his age. The soldier married March 9, 1784, Margaret Johnson. She was allowed pension on her application executed January 18 1851, at which time she was living in Beaufort, South Carolina, aged eighty-four years. Their children were: Elizabeth born February 11, 1785, married November 21, 1799, Hamilton Tripp; Rebecca born July 4 1787, died October 1, 1790 Mary Margaret born November 24 1790, died October 1, 1794; John Johnson born September 20, 1793, died August 7, 1795; Henrietta born February 9 179-(record torn), married May 5 1818, John Bell.(note: 5 is not clear, could be 6 or 8) She died August 14, 1825; Caroline born April 21,179-(record torn), married December 12 1816 John Verdier; Edward born June 5 1800, married February 23, 1825 Catherine Williams; Anna born December 27 1801, died December 27, 1823; Louisa born November 5 1807, died 1809; Henry born September 6, 1811 Very truly yours.
