I have been researching my family line in the SC Lowcountry for a long time and have seen this name extensively. Alexander R. Chisholm first appears in the Beaufort District Census for 1820. I do not see him in the 1830 nor the 1840 list but in 1850, an Argent Chisholm (76 yr. old female) appears with an H. Chisholm (30 yr. old male). A Chisolm home is noted on an 1873 map that I have of Beaufort County. If you search the Lowcountry records, you should be able to find quite a lot on this family.
