Previously contacted VA personnel at cemetery, over the years, to be told, "Yes Sir, we will do it..." and it never happens. Below from a letter to my G-g-grandparents John Parkhill and Martha Jane Patterson of Claysville County, Ohio - In Memoriam Corporal James Parkhill, Co. A, 78th Regt. Ohio Vet. Infantry Vols. was killed January 28th [1865] by the accidental discharge of a gun in the hands of a private of the 68th Ohio, the ball passing directly through his bowels, caused his death in a very few hours. We, the members of his company, do hereby express our deep sorrow in having lost a brave and faithful soldier, a noble and generous companion and true christian. A more patriotic and better soldier never carried musket, always cheerful, tenderhearted and uncomplaining, he was loved by all. We are called to imitate his virtues and do deeply sympathize with his afflicted parents and friends who have lost an affectionate and dutiful son and a noble and generous hearted companion. His name will ever be cherished by his Company with the highest admiration and his manly, christian and noble characteras a soldier and friend will ever stand in memorys brightest page. We are called by this Mysterious Providence to humble ourselves and put our houses in order and be prepared to meet our God. We rejoice to know that his life amidst the trials, temptations and hardships of the soldier was such as to give evidence that he now sleeps sweetly and peacefully in Jesus; his Spirit is encircled in the glories of Eternity. Though suddenly cut down in the days of his youth his life was not in vain. God had need of him in the temple above. He has gone from his labor and his works to follow him. /s/ Members of Company A >>> Thank you in advance. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
