There is no other information on the marker. She is buried in Savannah, Georgia, but is recorded in census records in both Georgia and South Carolina. Since you posted your first comment, I am happy to report that you have found the descendants you were searching for. I however am still searching for ancestors of "Sallie", and do not have any confirmation of her husband's name or place of birth. I do know that you were right about all of Sallie's children and would also like to list them here. Addie Elizabeth Higgs Green 1879-1952 Clara Higgs Banks 1884- John Frank Higgs 1886-1924 Lillian Cornelia Higgs Alstine 1890-1938 Polly Rosella Higgs Corbett 1894-1966 I believe that Sallie's children were all born in South Carolina in either Jasper County, Hampton County, or Beaufort County areas. They didn't move that much, but in the late 1800s to 1912 the county lines were redrawn several times. More specifically, I believe that Lillian was born in Gillisonville, and that the other children were born in that area around Grays, Ridgeland, Coosawhatchie, etc. After marriage, Lillian and Addie lived in Savannah. Polly moved to Florida, and I think Clara may have moved to Tennessee. John Frank Higgs died in South Carolina. The oral tradition states that John Frank may have been named for the father, and that Sallie was born in Augusta, Georgia. Also, Sallie's husband or parents may have been first generation immigrants. According to 1900 census records, Sallie was listed as a "cook", she was white, but she could not read or write. She and children were living in Lawton Township in Hampton County South Carolina. This census record states that both of her parents were born in South Carolina. I think this might be part of present-day Hilton Head Island. Also, many of the records from this area were destroyed during the civil war, or by a terrible hurricane that struck during the early 1890s. If anyone has information to share I would be very grateful!!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
