    1. Re: [SCBEAUFO] "Bonnie Hall" & "Plainfield" Plantations, SC
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: F0CUS0NINFINITY Surnames: Bellinger, Blake, Cantey, Yonge, Baker, Bulloch, Mackenzie, Middleton, Bradley, Jewett, Fleming, Wootten, Wooten, Miller, Amos, Wildsmith, Cadwalader Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.beaufort/59.2.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ms Amos: Good luck; pre-Civil War black genealogy is so difficult. I'm attempting to help an old up-state S.C., black Bellinger family, connect with the old Walterboro, S.C., black Bellinger branch. Mr. Wildsmith: I descend South Carolina Surveyor-General, Capt. Edmund Bellinger, Sr., Landgrave (created 1698; of Tombodly and Ashepoo Baronies), who was the master of the ship "Blake" which brought the first cattle to S.C. Bellinger was in the service of Gov. Joseph Blake, Sr., Landgrave (created 1696)(of "Plainfield" Barony?). Do you know the history of the ship "Blake"? Why was Bellinger in Blake's service? Is there a Blake-Bellinger familly connection? Where was the Blake family from? I descend Edmund's son, Capt. Wm. Bellinger, Sr., who wed Mary Cantey (daughter of Wm. Cantey & Jane Baker), and had Elizabeth Bellinger, 2nd wife of the Hon. Henry Yonge, Sr., Loyalist, H.M. Surveyor-General of Georgia. In his Loyalist Claims, Henry called his first wife (who got his sequested estates) Christiana Bulloch (sister of Patriot Gov. Bulloch): a "rebel". Henry Sr. was the son of the Hon. Francis Yonge, Lords Proptietors Surveyor-General of the Bahamas, Carolinas, and Georgia. Henry Sr's son, Capt. Philip Yonge, Loyalist, H.M. Surveyor-General of Georgia, wed Christian Mackenzie; the daughter of Capt. Wm. Mackenzie, H.M. Comptroller and Collector of Customs, Sunbury, Georgia. William's brother, was George, Third Earl Cromartie, of Cromarty, Scotland; who's daughter, Lady Mary; wed the "Signer" Middleton, of Middleton Plantation. Capt. Mackenzie wed Christiana Cadwalader of Phila.? Philip at Ft. St. Augustine, Fla., served with his brother, Maj. Henry Yonge, Jr., who's plantation is now Ormond, Fla. (it's Public Library on Yonge Street). Jr. was H.M. Attorney-General of British East Florida, and as such; canceled 1,000 indentures of the New Smyrna Beach, Fla., enslaved Menorcans; and commanded a company of Florida, Menorcan Royal Provincial Militia. Mrs. Christian Mackenzie Yonge's daughter, Eliza Claudia Yonge, wed Bank of Cape Fear officer Richard Bradley, Jr. (son of Patriot, Cont. Line paymaster Richard Bradley, Sr., of Wilmington, N.C.). Richard Jr's summer home is now "Airlie Gardens" on Bradley's Creek, N.C. Claudia is supposedly buried there under her second husband, Mr. Fleming's surname? As is her Bank of Wilmington, son-in-law Stephen Jewett, IV; who wed second, Miss. Lucy Anna Bradley; her daughter. My sister Anne, lives on Bradley's Creek Point Road. Stephen and Lucy's grandson, was my late grandfather, Edw. Yonge Wootten. Jim Miller, Southport, North Carolina Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [SCBEAUFO] Samuel B. Blackwell Born 1820's Married Mary Rebecca Easterling in 1848
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: staticchair Surnames: Blackwell, Easterling Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.beaufort/286/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There had to be two Samuel B. Blackwell's. The Samuel B. Blackwell I am looking for was born 1820-1825 & married Mary Rebecca Easterling in 1848 in Williamsburg County, SC. It appears these people moved around like gypsies because Samuel.B. Blackwell's family was living in Georgetown District, SC in 1850 & Beaufort District, SC in 1860 & Charleston County, SC in 1870 & then Samuel.B. Blackwell & his wife seem to disappear but by 1880 their son named Samuel Addison Blackwell is living around Savannah, Georgia where he dies in 1896. After finding the Will of Michael Blackwell online earlier this month naming a son Samuel B. Blackwell I thought I had it figured it out but apparently not so. I hope someone can lead me in the right direction. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The marriage record for Martha Doxey would have been to a Bolick, but don't know how his name was listed, probably William. William and Martha were divorced sometime between 1937 and 1944.
