Surnames: Greene, Green, Singleton, Fields, Ladson, Pinckney Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IeB.2ACI/59.2.1 Message Board Post: Dear Mr Wildsmith, Thank you for responding to my post. I've tried to reach the "Cowperthwaite's", on many of ocassions. I got their address and telephone numbers from the SC information. I've never received a response from them. I figured they wanted to sweep that part of Bonnie Hall's history back under the rug. I've traced my great-great-great-grandfather and grandmother,(as children), back to 1870, both living on the the Bonnie Hall plantation. It was then owned by the Blake family. The Blake's were an early American colonial family given a parcel of land in SC by the King of England. They were the largest slave owners in the Carolinas. My ggg-grandfather Robert Green/e died on the plantation in 1929 or 1930. My ggg-grandmother Linda Singleton Green/e passed between 1908 and 1910. All of their children were born on B.H. Many of my great aunts and uncles were still listed there on the 1930 federal census for Beaufort, SC, Sheldon County. I have more information I can share with you pri! vately. I would greatly appreciate any help you can give. Again, thank you so very much for responding. Hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely yours, Senora Amos Senamo@aol.com

The current owners are John and Davilynn Cowperthwaite and you can get their telephone number from SC information. The plantation is located on River Road in Yemassee, South Carolina. If you don't have any luck with them, please contact me and I'll see what I can do to help you. Good luck on your search. Don Wildsmith

GOD BLESS AMERICA! fyi... ----- Original Message ----- From: <TONIHEADR@aol.com> To: <SC-Genealogy-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 06, 2003 4:35 PM Subject: [SC] USF Africana Heritage Project Hello, My name is Toni Carrier. I am the founding director of the University of South Florida Africana Heritage Project. Our mission is to rediscover precious records documenting former slaves and to make those records available on a free, public access internet site. Our researchers travel far and wide to transcribe records from archives, libraries and county records, before these are lost to history. Our largest focus, however, is within the genealogical community. We recognize that the majority of the records that mention slaves have actually been discovered by folks researching their own ancestry. So many folks have these records, and wish to share them, and that is where our Africana Heritage Project comes in. Our goal is to be a central home on the internet for any and all records that document slaves. Our website, which will be hosted by Rootsweb (God Love 'Em), is now under construction, and we are accepting submissions from the genealogical community. We are seeking any records that document slaves anywhere in the United States. We cherish our contributors. Please let us hear from you at toniheadr@aol.com . God Bless! 1. [SCBEAUFO] Barlow Williams 1756
    2. I am new to this list and decided to go on a wide goose chase with a family brick wall.  If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.  The family genealogy that I have was printed in book form in 1931.  The following is the introduction to the family printed in the book on the opening page.        JOHN WILLIAMS AND THANKFUL BARLOW              HISTORICALLY        In the days when this new world was being settled, John Williams, of Wilhelm, Holland, came to America to found a home, he having recently been married to Miss Thankful Barlow.         His wife followed later in a vessel which was more than three months in crossing the ocean, and finally tacked into BEAUFORT HARBOR, SOUTH CAROLINA, and anchored  so near the shore that the passengers could see John Williams on the meadow gathering salt hay with an ox team, earnestly gazing at the ship.        During the voyage a son had been born, May 12, 1756. His name was Barlow  Williams.  Seven weeks later the ship arrived in Beaufort Harbor as stated above.  The mother held her son at arms' length for the father to see.        The writer would not be surprised to learn that this same Barlow Williams was in some way connected with the founding of the colony of the Rev. George Whitefield, in Georgia.         After a time John Williams, with his family, moved to Cape May, and thence onto "Maurice River Neck," now Heislerville, New Jersey, where many of this descendants are living to this day. (1931)               There seems to be no record of Hannah and Andrew, supposed to be brother and sister of Barlow, the son of John and Thankful (Barlow)Williams.        Barlow Williams married Mehetable Carll 1776 in Heislerville, New Jersey              children              Susanna              Ariel              Whitefield              Elizabeth Carll              Thankful              Andrew              Abi              Mehetable        Susanna Williams married David Taylor August 21, 1798        children were              Whitefield W.              Thankful              Hannah        David and Susanna Taylor are my direct line.  David and Susanna are my road block or brick wall.         Is there anyone on this list who is researching the Williams family that moved onto New Jersey or some of the Williams family that stayed on in South Carolina?        Can you help me make any family connections between the Williams and Taylors  that may open up this brick wall on David and Susanna?        All research in New Jersey has been exhausted by 8 Taylor descendants living in PA, New Jersey, and Florida.  Cape May Historical Society, Cumberland County Historical Society and several universities in New Jersey have been exhausted in searching for further information about this family.        Any help would be greatly appreciated.        Sharon        Shadonkd35@aol.com        University of America est. in 1776
