    3. Hi Betty, We've wrote many times in the past. I just haven't gone anywhere with the Scates family the past few years. I've tried different lines of Samuel & Eliza children. It was a family that didn't stay in touch. Their daughter Cora would be my grandmother. I have some information on Charles, he was married twice. He had 3 children with his first wife & 10 with his second. Samuel & Eliza had 16 children. Did you ever come across when Samuel & Eliza died or where they died. No luck with cemeteries. I'm guessing they are both buried on the farm along with a couple of their children. Just can't prove any of it. I'm still in Kansas, I believe you were out west. Hope things are going good for you. 3. Margaret... You might try Indiana for Sam and Eliza...I notice some of the kids were born in IN and his (Tensley)father and mother died in Indiana...but I don't have any death dates. You confirmed some suspicions I had regarding to her father and mother's names. However, I was having a hard time finding any listing of a Euligia as a child of Layfayette. And with regard to the TB as the cause of death for Layfayette, that would make more sense as to the cause of death of Iva's parents and little sister given the 3 year span in which their death occurred. Do you know by chance if Dora or Euligia either one came from a Native American heritage? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: laurietoft Surnames: Scates, Armour, Armor Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.scates/169/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to fill in some blanks in my family history. My g-grandmother was Iva May Scates. She as born on January 6, 1894 in Arkansas. She had a younger sister, who I believe was named Minnie who, along with her parents all died before Iva turned 6. Family lore says that they all died of Yellow Fever with Iva being the only survivor. According to the 1900 census, she was shown as living with Charles Scates and his family and is listed as his niece. Prior to the 1900 census, the only information I have on Iva and her parents comes from family lore. If anyone can help me identify her parents (believed to be Euligia Scates and Dora Green), I would greatly appreciate it. My g-gma was born Iva May Scates in 1894 to (I believe) Eugilia G. Scates and Dora Green of Arkansas. She also had a younger sister who I believe was named Minnie. However, Minnie, Eugilia and Dora all dies between if 1897 - 1899 we believe of Yellow Fever. I know there are a lot of unknowns here but due to my g-gma being orphaned at such a young age, I am finding it very difficult to trace her ancestry. For a while after becoming an orphan, she lived with a Charles C Scates, according to the 1900 census. If you have any information that could fill in my wholes or confirm family legend, I would really appreciate it. Thank you! I sent an email to you last Friday, immediately after I read your reply to messages I posted to you in 2008; but I suspect you didn't receive it - since I haven't had a reply. So I'm trying to contact you again by posting this note directly to the message board. I sincerely hope it works this time! After all these years we must have tons of family news to catch up with, and with both of us interested in our respective family histories (your SCOTT pedigree goes back to 1703) I guess there is much you would like to know about your Isle of Wight ancestry. So, if you would like to correspond with me privately, please use this email address: nemology@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you ~ Warm regards, Geoff Scott Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
