    3. Hi. I have info about Wyatt Sherman Scates born 1857 and died 1914. His wife was Susan "Susie" V. McAdams, both buried at Rosedale Cemetery Ada, Okla. Their son was Vester Clayton Scates born Apr. 3, 1903 in Ada, okla. Died 1984 in Ada,Okla. He married Edith Willliams. Both buried at Rosedale Cemetery Ada, Okla. After his dad Wyatt Sherman Scates death he lived with his uncle Rosroe Cullen Scates. I also feel Wyatt and Susie also had a daughter Eva A Scates. Born 1896 in Ark. I think this shows up on the 1900 census in Ark. She must have died before or just shortly after Vester was born. The reason I say that is he did not ever remember having a sister and always thought he was an only child. But upon seeing her associated as there daughter in the ancestry records I believe it to be true. Thank you for letting me add this data. My mother was Linda Z Scates Stout Pate born Aug 4, 1937. Died May 12, 2019. She had one brother William Clayton Scates Sr. Deceased 2 sisters Johnnie Mozelle Scates Painter deceased. and Emma Sue Scates Capshaw Hutchings born June1926 died June 27, 2018.

    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: "Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails." We are presently setting up email groups at https://groups.io/. If there is interest in migrating this list to groups.io please respond to this message to that effect ASAP. Please have patience about the creation of your group. The response has been tremendous and it is taking time to get them all set up. Also, creation of this group will depend upon your response to this missive. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [SCATES] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message to the list address with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

    3. If anyone is researching the family of Samuel C & Eliza Scates, please contact me. They were born & got married in Tennessee, moved to Kansas in the later 1800s. The last I can find, they lived in Wilson County, KS. Samuel was in Pittsburg, KS also. They had 16 children. My grandmother was one of them. I have no idea where either of them died/buried. Author: cscates91 Surnames: Scates Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.scates/174/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dear Cousins, Recently my grandfather George Scates, past frequenter of family history forums, has passed away. I have inherited all his Scates and related genealogy papers. Although seemingly disorganized, I do have much knowledge of my Scates line from growing up, as I loved my grandpa dearly. I have also inherited a huge interest of where my family came from, and have been working on other lines since last year. My direct blood Scates line is as follows: Myself, James, George, Wilbur, George, James, James, Ithiel, John, Valentine. I am a member of the DAR but haven't done much with it besides joining. One thing I know for sure, is that he had some unfinished business. I myself have come up unsuccessful. But I do know there are many Scates researchers to help. It is my goal to complete what my grandpa had started and surpass. ------------------------------ Now to the point: Where did Valentine Scates come from, and who were his parents/siblings? When and where did he die? I do not have my grandpa's records with me at the moment but I know several things about him from these boards. Valentine Scates was born approximately 1680 in Haverforth? MA. He married Hannah Crockett/Stafford/King. He had 3 children: John, Elizabeth, and Abigail (Mary? I have the correct name but don't remember it right now). He was mentioned, witnessed and/or a subject of at least 2 different court proceedings, one of which he was accused of fathering a child by Sarah Turbet who later married a Connor. He was also a witness of a woman who lived with and wanted to marry a man by Black. I have seen that others have found tax papers placing him in places in the 1710s. I know he moved to Berwick, ME. Misc: I believe that I found that the general concensus is that all Scates's originated from one family. I have seen a few real early mentions in books of a Scates bricklayer in the mid/late 1600s. I have seen mentionings of a Jeames Scates, John Scate, among others. I know of several name variants, whether they are truly of my line I do not know: Skates, Scales, Skeates, Scate, Keates, Cate. --------------------------- To sum it up: What is known about Valentine Scates? In addition: Does his son John Scates b. 1726, who was a AR soldier, have a known headstone? --------------------------- Once college settles down in a week, I plan on digging through and organizing the info I have inherited. I did a quick look and didn't find any answers, which my grandmother confirmed as far as she knew. Thank you for your time to those who read and can help; I hope I in turn can help others with anything I may have. If anyone would like a copy of my grandfather George F.
