Winifred, I recommend installing SP-1 with the following WARNING: Set a RESTORE Point before you start, backup ALL data files, turn off your virus checker, disable your virus checker so that it will not start on startup, run "msconfig", check selective startup, and uncheck startup items, reboot, then run SP-1 upgrade. I received the above instructions from Microsoft AFTER I tried to run SP-1 unsuccessfully. Following the above instructions I had NO problem. I have a dialup connection so I ordered the SP-1 CD, but you can also download the update. Chuck, thank you for that explanation. After doing the last upgrade, I have Win98 2nd edition, I can't access the newsgroups. This is the message I get, "MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module INETCOMM.DLL at 018f:5ec24fd9" along with all the other x's and o's, etc. Someone did tell me of a newsgroup program to use, which I do have, but don't like it much. Maybe your suggestion will work for me, tomorrow. Thank you, Susanne
Chuck, I was unaware that you could buy the Service Pack 1 on CD. Where did you order it from please.
