It's more likely something has happened to your Word setup. It could be that the scanned picture has gotten into your Word template some how. Try looking in Word: Tools>Templates and Add-ins..., or in your Word file directory, for "normal.dot". Editing or deleting this file may work. I have Word 97, not Word 2000, so this may not be exactly correct, but should be close. You should be able to easily rule out the possibility that the picture is feeding in from the scanner when "The scanner starts up when you turn on your computer".
