    3. I have an HP 5550c and basically love it. It does not get along well with my digital camera software. I have started downloading pictures from the camera by allowing the computer to believe it is a removable disk. Every since I started doing that, I've had no problems in that area. I do have another occasional problem that I have no clue exactly what causes it. For whatever reason, my computer can not find my scanner. I end up having to uninstall it, unplug it, reboot, install it, plug it in and reboot and then all is well until it throws a fit again. I use my scanner for business and I believe the scanner is on its way to replacing a fax machine. I know I would much rather get scanned and emailed paperwork than faxed. They are cleaner and easier to read. I also scan fabric for my quilt software. It is a great way to show a friend or relative exactly what you are doing. Between the digital camera (with macro mode) and scanner, you can take pictures of documents to import into a genealogy program or to send to someone. It is hard choosing between which works best whether to take a digital picture of an old picture or whether to scan it. One project still in my thinking cap, it to take pictures of flowers and create a collage to scan to turn into fabric wallpaper. I think I'll also scan a sea of rose petals that I'll scatter on the glass. I'll drape different fabric on the top in order to get the background I want. The same could be done of family members to make a quilt or place mats or coasters. All you have to remember is that the bottom becomes the top. :) Since quilters can create fabric via the use of an ink jet printer, a scanner is used for layering different things to get one of a kind fabric. You are limited only by your imagination whether for business or hobby for just about any kind of craft. 3. Try a different USB position. Is the USB connection on a separate hub or on the computer? Is it on the front or on the back of the computer. The best USB connection seems to be on the back of my computer. I had the same problem with my scanner and my Cannon S900 printer. I had to uninstall the scanner, then install the printer, then reinstall the scanner. I haven't had a problem since.
