    1. Re: [SP] Scanner advice needed

    3. Hi Kathy, It sounds as if something isn't right in the settings of your scanner and/or your monitor (video driver etc). If it's the "computer" colour that's the problem, a new scanner won't solve the problem. I don't know anything much about colour management and matching - it seems to me to be very complicated but it sounds as if you're not really looking for 100% accuracy between original, computer and printer - just realistic, same to the normal eye type. Perhaps in your trying to fix the problem you have added a colour profile or something that is skewing the colour mix. You don't say what graphics editor you are using. Some have the ability to remove a "colour cast." You may do better to scan with defaults and do the adjustment with your graphics editor. Streaky glass? My first scanner often had that problem. I was shown how to dismantle it and clean it myself. I do the same with my Epson. Just make sure you don't drop things into the scanner or use window cleaners etc when you clean the glass. A damp lint free cloth is usually sufficient. The scanner books say you shouldn't do this but who has the money or the time to get it done by the service people all the time. probably not much help, Cathy At 09:03 10/08/2004, you wrote: >I would like to hear some opinions on which scanners do a good job of colour >portraits.
