Julie, No single scanner "does it all." Purchased a Transparent Media Adaptor in 1996 to go with a large flatbed scanner when any equipment over 300 dpi was too expensive to consider for home use. Useful for large 2 1/4 inch slides or negatives but not adequate for 35mm slides or film. Original flatbed scanner with the longest glass is still in the computer room but hasn't been connected recently. Would probably still work with the dual boot computer that has Microsoft ME as well as XP Pro. TMA is like a full scanner in the lid and only works with one model of flatbed, not the 600 dpi purchased after the price dropped. The first film scanner was limited to 35mm cardboard or thin plastic slides and cut 35mm film. Maximum 2400 dpi, about 16 mb file from an uncropped slide. Other models can handle uncut film or have adaptors for APS film. Favorite flatbed scanner is a Microtek 5700 with a media adaptor built into the lid. It isn't as good for slides but does allow scans of "snapshot" size negatives. Some of the genealogy source documents must be scanned in two parts. -- Elizabeth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Julie Marriott" > I have some black and white negatives from the 1940's and 1950's which I > would love to be able to scan into my computer. Hi I hope this List is appropriate for this question I have a friend who has the chance of purchasing, at a fairly reasonable price, a Fuji FinePix A120 Digital Camera. She has asked fpr my opinion and as I don't know a thing about them I thought I would ask the List. Thanks for your time Garry New Zealand
