    3. Thank you ,Elaine, for the answer as to why not attachments. I've never had this happen and I have a large fireproof safe full to brimming with pictures of anscestors many of which I got by the cousins sharing through e-mail.I do have to print them off and save that way because they load the computer too much. You may need more drive room can you upgrade with a chip. This may happen to me some time but I hope not. 3. Hi, I have the 1660 and love it, it does slides really nicely. I was also able to use it to scan 1841 Scottish Census (Girvan, at 1600 dpi) It turned out pretty good (a couple aren't so good but I think it was the image rather than the scanner) Luckily it went on sale when I was looking for a new one (My old Microtec E6, was scsi and the old card didn't fit into my new computer so it was a good excuse to upgrade) Bye for now Mary Muir [email protected] http://www.genealogy.bc.ca ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sherry" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 16, 2003 7:24 AM Subject: [SP] New scanner > Hi all, > > I currently have a Umax Astra 2100U which I've not been happy with. > Scans never look close to the original (it takes a lot of color > adjustment to make it look halfway decent) and the software crashes > after a couple of passes. 3. Hello RaynLois, This information to Sherry is very helpful to me, also. I have just bought an HP Scanjet 7450C. I ordered the document feeder to help with old family accounts and the slide scanner to help with old family slides. So, it will do negatives too? I have old family pictures where I have given away the print and have only the negatives. I am still in the process of learning to manage the main scanner. But I do plan to learn to use the slide scanner soon. -- Best regards, Mary Thursday, January 16, 2003, 12:04:49 PM, you wrote: R> Scanning slides/negatives provides much greater resolution than scanning R> from prints. 3. Scanning slides/negatives provides much greater resolution than scanning from prints. Also, once you start scanning slides/negatives and find how easy it is, you'll be digging into closets and old boxes looking for things to scan. I found some slides my Dad took back in the 40's and 50's. When the transparency unit is turned on the Epson Twain driver gives three option's - flatbed, negative TPU or positive TPU (TPU being for transparency unit). Select positive for slides and negative for negatives. I found the color translation to be fantastic. 1. [SP] Conflicting digital camera software
    2. Mary Bull
    3. Hello Listers, I am not sure whether questions about digital cameras belong to this list, but I will ask mine, and be happy to be pointed to a more appropriate place if need be. For 5 years I have had a Kodak DC210, with Twain software and Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0. I have recently bought a Canon G2, and it comes with WIA and Twain software, and Adobe Photoshop 5.0. I am running Windows XP Home on a 120 GB hard drive with 512 MB RAM. There is plenty of space to leave the old applications on when I install the new ones. I am worried, however, that the applications may "fight." Do you think I should uninstall the applications that came with the Kodak DC210 before installing the Canon G2 software? Up until last fall I was running Win95B on a 2.99 GB hard drive with 32 MB RAM. In 1998, when I added an HP 722C Deskjet to my mix (I had an HP Laserjet 6L as my main printer) the software CD put Corel on my machine. Corel promptly disabled Adobe Photo Deluxe from acquiring pictures from the digital camera and then eventually Corel ate its own exe. So nothing worked! Eventually I manually uninstalled all of Corel. Quite a task. From then on Adobe and Adobe Photodeluxe 2.0 were a pleasure. Does anyone on this list have an idea what I should do? Of course, I could just put the installation CDs in and run them. But I'd like to avoid the problems I ran into with Corel and Adobe both on my earlier hard drive. -- Best regards, Mary

    3. Laney, you can do this using "cut and paste" in most cases. However, make sure your mail message is set in the FORMAT of HTML/RICH TEXT as it won't work in PLAIN TEXT messages. Be aware that it will increase the size of your message dramatically, depending on the size of the image you are pasting. This may cause problems for the recipient, as their ISP may limit message size or download size. To cut and paste the image, open it in your photo editing program, click EDIT|SELECT ALL then press CTRL-C. It will then be "copied" to Windows Clipboard. Go to your message. Now, position your cursor where you want the image "pasted" (above or below any text already there). If you want it in the centre of a page, select that option on your mail program toolbar, otherwise the default will be the left hand side. Once you have the correct position, press CTRL-V. Hopefully, you should now see the image in your message. Some mail programs may have a problem with this, but most will allow it. Hello list, I am rather new to this list. I have just been sitting back and observing and trying to learn. I need some help. I have an old Plustek Optic Pro scanner which I have mostly used to copy things onto paper. I would like to copy some photographs and send them as an e-mail WITHOUT an attachment. How do I go about doing this? I haven't even been able to bring up stuff that I thought I saved into a folder to be retrieved later. I feel like such a dummy!!!!! Is there someone on this list who could give me step by step instructions, please. Thanks, Laney --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
