So here it is: The model I have is an Epson Perfection 3170 Photo. I got it at Best Buy for about $190. It scans documents, black & white negatives and 35mm color slides. The software with it is great and it includes Adobe Elements PhotoShop 2 - if you want to touch up. I really haven't used Adobe, the slides came thru without need for touch-ups. There are other scanners on the market, but this one works great and is priced right. You can read more about it on the Epson Scanner site at http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=35836301 I also bought a 2.0 USB card with 3 plug-in slots since my computer came with the 1.0 USB. It works either way, the 2.0 increases speed a little. I have been waiting for the Epson printer, R300. It is a six color printer that says that it prints labels on "ink jet printable" CD's. Retail is about $180. It is sold out all over the country. My order at OfficeMax is 5 weeks old now. The Epson website store is also out. Everyone is waiting for re-supply. Makes me wonder if there was a problem with it and they are re-tooling something. Hello Bob I believe that responding privately defeats the purpose of the list. I for one, am glad to see people make their recommendations public. That is what helps get the conversations going Please reconsider and let the list know your opinion. I only know the scanner I bought last month works great compared to some of the earlier ones I had.
I would be interested in knowing what scanner you have. Within the next two months I will be buying a scanner for slides and am trying to get all the information I can. Thank you.
Hi Please include me too. I'm going to be needing a new scanner soon and want to scan many of my colour transparencies. Thank you. I bought a Microtek Scanmaker 5900 that features 35mm scans. Haven't had time to pursue it very much yet, but I have hundreds of slides from many trips to Europe and around the US. Just need to get the time to scan them. Wolf camera will do it for a fee but I just have too many to go that way. Name and model of scanner for 35mm slides, please. I have a great many from the 50's which I want to preserve on CD's for my family. My dad was a photog and left me hundreds! Thanks for any information and suggestions.

Minolta that takes multiple slides at one time is the favorite, purchased Elite model that looks like the one at this link along with separate APS adaptor. http://shop.minoltausa.com/ If you need to work with uncut film, that needs a different style of 35mm film scanner. Scanning once slide at a time is slow if there are many. 2400 dpi with an early slide scanner produced 16 mb files with highly detailed dust spots. Organize and identify slides in advance so that the files can be given meaningful names at the time of scanning. ----- Original Message ----- > Name and model of scanner for 35mm slides, please.

Most important is to USE some of the collected images to test Hi Elizabeth! It's nice to see you on here also. This has been kind of a dormant list. I'm sure if someone asked a question, there would be those who could give answers - I know you can. I can expound a little on scanning 35mm color slides. I bought a scanner that scans 4 35mm color slides at a time and produces wonderful copy. It even corrects color deterioration. I have about 200 slides from Korea taken in 1952 - they came out great. I now have them on CD's for future use. I'm now waiting for a new 6 color printer that also prints labels on the CD's. I'm curious how that can be done.
There are several overlapping mailing lists with discussion of pictures and file naming. Most important is to USE some of the collected images to test that file size is appropriate for the intended purpose. My interest is printing right-size pictures and scanned source documents in a family book. -- Elizabeth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vickie" > is the group talking and I'm not getting anything or is the last post dated > 11/2003 ?

is the group talking and I'm not getting anything or is the last post dated 11/2003 ?
I have bought an early Olympus ES10 dedicated film scanner. Works ok on slides, but with color negatives,do I have spend hours, trial & error,on the color curves,to get the picture looking correct? Or is there an easier way Nick Ashby Eastcote Middx England

The correct way to unsubscribe is to send a message to [email protected] with the single word UNSUBSCRIBE in the text of the message. ArcSoft www.arcsoft.com used to have a freeware version of thier PhotoStudio on line. I could not find it now. This is really easy to use. The hard part is scanning the images straight. If you do not have them straight the stitched area will be blurry. A half of a degree of rotation will cause problems. This is more noticable on text or maps than on photos. Visit http://www.rootsweb.com/~neknox/1920atlas/nebrmap.htm for a map that I scanned for the Knox Co. NEGenWeb Project. This is a large image (795K). It was scanned in three parts. On the top center of the map you will notice some yellow. Follow the right edge of that down to the text and you will see what the miss alignment will do to the text. The left edge of this was better aligned. Tom Garry F Bell <[email protected]> wrote: Hi I have a few images which I have had to scan in two parts. Does Photo Shop Pro provide for the stitching process? If not is there any particular software that does.
