    3. Hi Happy New Year, from New Zealand, to all Listers Two questions if I may: 1) I am in the process of purchasing a new scanner which will enable me to scan (besides documents) several hundred 35mm slides. I am looking at the Epson V300 Photo and the HP Scanjet G2410. I assume that he slide adapters are built-in and are not add-ons (am I correct?). When they say that they accept 35 mm strips and slides do they provide for the difference between the cardboard and plastic mounts? 2) I have many, many newspaper articles (all text) which I want to scan as images. Which is the best format to use? With thanks Garry F Bell __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4752 (20100107) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com

Which is the best format to use? I scan in everything as tif files because think you are safe this way. Also, I scan in newsprint at 1000 dpi because it usually gets rid of the moire. You can always reduce the dpi later. Better to have more than less. Carole

    3. Bill, I am not familiar with your specific Scanner so will ask the "dumb" questions. Are you saying that there is a Check Box for an option entitled "Accept it all in color"? Are you sure the "Save as" step converts it to grayscale? 3. Courtney: the Canon is the Pixma MP240 I'm not seeing anyplace on this scanner for an attachment for slides. I'm looking for a slide scanner that will work with Windows Vista. when i bought this new computer I thought I would be able to use my scanmaker 4800 that I already had a slide attachment for, but the scanner will no longer even turn on so I'm trying to find a solution. I have a lot of older slides that I need to scan, clean up and then put into a slide show on DVD for my son and my stepsons. 3. Pat, I have a Canon 4200F and my husband has the newer model of the same one, the Canon 4400, both do an excellent job with slides and 35MM negatives, and they probably have the same kinds of controls as the Canon you have now, so would be less of a learning curve Canon also makes an 8400 (I think that's the number) that is more expensive, so you'd have to check which one you might want to get as far as $ goes Which Canon do you have now ?
